Starting a scene with some clips muted?

I was experimenting ideas for making a LIVE set..and wondered if there is a way so when hitting start on a scene not all the clips are on..just ones I want..so I could build it up.. Maybe I could lower the level in the audio gain..but any better ways?

Why not use the crossfader?

Start crossfaded to A, assign all the clips you want to bring in later in your track to B. Use the crossfader to bring in all those tracks.
