Forgot about the Mum set, can't remember much about it but an interesting band.

Remember the Dennis Desantis stuff? Or that weird Sampler pack that ended up scattered all over your library? That was actual content, usable content. I think that's more what people have in mind.

I'm a secular humanist and a democratic socialist so I'm not big on Christmas or consumer gift giving but thanks anyway.
The Samplification pack? That was Dennis as well I think, the man's a great sound designer. I love the 'piano delicacy' instrument.

If you've read any of his posts about Live its obvious why he uses it. Its a pattern based sequencer that he would like to use to control his nord modulars etc in a live setting. The rest follows from that.
of course i've read his posts about Live, and that is why i ask the question - why use (or try to use) something that clearly doesn't work for you?
surely it's a waste of time, no? i'm not trying to be a smart arse, i'm genuinely interested.

just to throw my hat in the ring- and since there are indications this feedback is going somewhere- I really would much rather have seen a proper deal offered on M4L once a year and never see partner instrument samples or live packs again.
I realize a lot of people like loops and like presets- to me it is kind of like: fuck that, give me a deal on the next batch of real tools. Loops and presets and all that crap come free as "value added" magazine packaging.
However, I appreciate the gesture and also recognize the company doesn't have to give us anything and it is a nice thought. Really, I just want an opportunity to buy M4L at a better price than it currently runs for or was offered in the previous sales. It isn't that I begrudge anyone the value of the software- just that I tend to enjoy the bargain opportunity as a customer appreciation more than anything and it is nice to catch a break in the upgrade cycle once in a while.
All that said- I bought this thing, I love it, it doesn't owe me anything, I guess- I know for a fact that if you had told me twenty years ago I'd be whining re: the magic laptop program that lets me record and perform things that would have been unthinkable then... well, I probably would have smacked myself...

when i first switched to live i was very excited about this "livepacks" idea and started to collect every little livepack/set exist on the Internet.

After some time of usage i realized that all this pack related shit is just a mess.
Some packs will be installed in live's lib without let the user to choose for a location. Some livepack's will be installed outside live's lib anyway so the user have to import manually.

Also the user have no control to choose what he really needs. We have to install the full pack. If there are 2 good instruments out off 100 and 50 good samples out of 1000 then why should i install everything? why i cant even preview and listen what is inside?

Then after the installation the content of the packs will be everywhere in live's lib to 100 of different folders and subfolders.

imo all the library/livepack thing needs a full rework to add more user control and then maybe we can talk about some QUALITY free packs.

Right now for me a free livepack is only a trouble. Id prefer even a simple .zip file with 100 quality royalty free samples. i could then unzip, listen to what is there, choose, import to my custom made lib.

SO!
the fail goes first to the full pack content management and library
and then to this specific Christmas gift.

Also we, the users are a mess too! We want the best and for free.
If there is something we say i'd prefer nothing.
If there is nothing we say WTF, there should be something.

anyway

thanks for the free gift but i wont take it :-)

Hah, we're a bunch of spoiled kids. Since when does a company need to give the users ANYTHING for free? It feels like we would've been better off with no presents at all.

I just downloaded the Everett Bradley Pack, and I enjoyed listening to the song. I'm simply amazed that my laptop handled it without a hiccup or a crash. I don't seem to have that much luck when I try to do anything on my laptop.

As long as some people find something useful, educational or inspiring out of it then it's all to the good. Like I said, I enjoyed looking over the Apparat AbleTen set and though I don't really use or tweak presets I still enjoyed looking at how the Dennis DeSantis/Samplification patches were set up. I'm always interested in anything either of those guys do.

Free stuff is surplus to requirements for me but some people dig the free goodies just as something new to play around with and that can be fun. I pretty much use the tools I have to make sounds unless it's something I'm buying to fill a specific need.

I didn't get the impression people were angry, just not loving these particular packs apparently. Can't really complain if it's free. The use of stock presets from the library really surprised me but even that might give someone some ideas.

Funny, but the only people who seem to be getting angry in this post are the people upset over the people not
enjoying the free Xmas present.

It started off as a throw away line, but because we didn't think much of our gift, we are now a pack of thankless bitches.

Come on now.

Oh, thanks anyway Abes. Just not into (Library bloat) live packs.

Merry Xmas to all.

How can anyone complain about something free???

Personally, I love opening and examining other people's Live sets. It gives me inspiration and ideas.
