Yamaha SW1000XG and Live 8

Post by Funky Dope » Sun Dec 19, 2010 10:39 pm

:?:

Hi Livers !

I have just switched from Cubase to Live Suite and want to know if anyone using Live in combination with the good ol´ Yamaha SW1000XG MIDI Card ?

For short explanation, the SW1000XG is a Soundcard with ASIO Support and has also a complete XG-MIDI Soundchip with 1200 Sounds and 25 DrumKits. It is now outdated and no longer available but still is a great "workateer" for Music production.

In Cubase it was possible to import a Patch List wich was a simple Textfile that contains all the Soundnames an the corresponding ProgramChange Values. You could then choose every Sound or DrumKit from the card very easy by klicking on a DropDown Menu in the "Inspector".

Is this also possible in Live Suite 8.2.1 ?
How can I choose some MIDI-Voices from internal Soundcards ?

Thank you for support and get FUNKY ;-)

I used to use an XG editor app for this when I used an SW1000XG .... I found this card incredibly useful when combined with the editor ... not sure what OS I was using back then ... XP I think ...rock on SW1000XG!

I still use an SW1000XG with Live. I usually just select presets via XGPad but as this has started crashing on me I have started saving dummy clips with the patch numbers in them.

:D

Hi and thank you guys a lot for your answers.

Thats sad news for me because I dont want to go the way over another Editorsoftware to control the SW.
I tried this on Cubase and it never really worked properly and was way to difficult to set up.

I hoped that Live can handle it more easy because I thought Live is "THE THANG" when it comes to Controllerism.
Seems that Live can't even handle the GM-Standard properly.....

So Bagatell, how do you have your XGPad connected to Live - via MidiYoke ?

If XGPad is crashing you could try XG Wizard wich I used long time.
The Website is down but you can still download it from several Downloadsources.
If not, I can send it to you together with the Registration Keys.

What do you mean Dummyclips with Patchnumbers in it ?
I tried it that same way but I can't select any Sounds from the XG-Side.
Only the 128 GM_Sounds are available.

I create a new MIDI Track - Choose "External Instrument" from the Instrumentsmenu and DragDrop it on the Track - then there is a Box where I set the "MIDI To" to SW1000XG Synthsizer 1 an the "AUDIO from" to 1/2 Output.
Then I create a new Clip in the MIDI Track and theres a Box with the NOTE-Window where you can change Bank, SubBank and Programm.
Setting Bank to 1 and SubBank to 1 and change the third Value from 1 to 128, switches through the normal GM Soundbank.

But I can't get access to the XG-Sounds.

Any suggestions ?

Thank you guys and merry Christmas to all you Livers.

Get Funky,
Danny
