Rockband 3 Fender mustang Pro guitar (midi)
Hey,
I just bought this mad catz controller for rock band 3 (Wii) hoping it would work with Ableton as well to justify the price ($169 cad) and to my astonishment, it works. I plugged the guitar controller into my Novation remote 25sl (midi port 1, IN) using a midi chord and dropped in a grand piano into the midi track and it worked. All 102 buttons work as if playing a guitar, I can strum chords, pick, etc. You can also change the octave by pressing the 1 and B buttons. I can use the note bend on by keyboard, but I'm trying to figure out how to map it to an expression pedal, no luck yet (sure it can be done).
I'm sure the other buttons on this controller do other things as well.
Just wanted to post this so the ableton community was aware that this controller is a very cheap way to not only have fun on rockband but a great controller for ableton, especially if you a guitar player like me.
Try it out if you have one of these babies, I think I'll try the rockband 3 keyboard next. Much fun.
Peace

Thanks for sharing. I had considered getting that fancy midi guitar, though I already have a roland enabled midi guitar. I do enjoy Rock Band as well. I still haven't picked up 3 yet.

have you figured out if it's possible to add a sustain pedal?

Hey,
I haven't figured this out yet but I've come across this article from "createdigitalmusic.com", here's the link
http://createdigitalmusic.com/2010/10/r ... -pro-midi/. It explains a lot about the controller and what it can as a midi controller. It looks like one way to control the suatain is by plugging a pedal into the guitar itself (input beside the midi input), although I have't tried this yet, I'll keep you posted.
Peace

Oh man, I got one of these recently and haven't had the chance to plug it into Live yet. It's not the most amazing construction, but far better than I was expecting for the price. Looking forward to seeing what kind of trouble I can get into with it.

Interesting. I haven't really touched my PS3 since I've gotten an iPad and was never much of a gamer to begin with, so for me that's a stupid amount of money to spend on a controller. But at the same time it's a cheap alternative guitar MIDI controller. Dilemma.

I considered it to be cheap, cheesy MIDI controller, with a bonus game controller thrown in for good measure
