Question on APC40 mapping

Post by Simetriada » Wed Dec 29, 2010 2:57 am

Hi everybody!

I'd like to know the following:

I have an APC40 which I normaly use for Ableton Live. Recently I got Traktor Pro and I'm wondering if I really need an other controller for it.

So, what happens if I midi-map/customize my APC40 for Traktor, will it automatically switch back to the default Ableton Live setup when I run Ableton again?

And would it have saved the Traktor setup for future use? I mean...can I use the same controller with both softwares without having to map them each time I swap?

And, by the way, I'm quite in love with the NI Kontrol X1. Would it make a good team together with the APC40?

Well, thank you very much in advance and merry christmas to everyone!

You need to go over to DJ TechTools and read up on some threads about it.

The APC40 works differently with Traktor if;
1. You start Ableton get the "Matrix Box" close it and then Open Traktor (also known as dumb mode)
2. Upon starting up your computer you have NOT opened Ableton, and you Start Up Traktor.
3. Have both programs running.

However you can save Mappings in Traktor, and Ableton Saves mapping per set. SO yes you can use one controller for both programs without having to remap each time, but you need to learn how to map the APC40 in Traktor, and the difference in how it works from the points I made above.

The APC40 can be a lot of fun in Traktor, and you can download some Traktor mappings people have made to figure out how to do somethings that are confusing to just figure out on your own.

You can use it for both, but life is alot easier if you have something like the X1 controller as well - which is what i use for controlling traktor, leaving the APC40 exclusively for ableton live.
Nothing to see here - move along!

Great!

Thank you very much for your answers!

The thing is, I think I'd be alright with just a Kontrol X1 for the kind of djing I'm thinking about, but still I'd like to have at least a crossfader available. That's what I would use the Apc40 for (apart from a few further Traktor effects).

Do you know if there is any "external" or midi-crossfader-controller? (Like the Novation's Dicer, e.g.)

Thanks a lot for your help again!

Regards

You should really check the Forums at DJ Tech Tools, when it comes to questions about Traktor, and ways to control it.
