Clicks and Buzz when recording Audio

Post by jdazzle » Wed Jan 05, 2011 4:23 am

Hi All,

Recently installed Live 8.2 (new user, first install). Having trouble recording guitar audio with M-Audio Firewire 410. I am using a iMac 2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo. I have the latest drivers from M-Audio and the latest update for OSX. I have tried buffers changes extensively up and down with test tones, different mics, different cables, double checking to make sure I am not clipping, I have turned off the airport, uninstalled Skype, and I am going blind from reading forums. :D I was just about to mark the problems down to the Firewire when just for a test I tried recording the same track on Pro-Tools M-Powered 8. There were no problems at all.

When I am recording in Live the problem manifests itself mostly when recording is underway (when the mic is open and no recording is taking place there are very slight issues but nothing like the trouble when the CPU is under load). The electric noise starts as I get deeper into the recording. I am playing a midi drum track at the same time as recording the audio. I appreciate any ideas you may have. Also, in other things I have experimented with I have not had noise with midi and playing clips and loops.

You know, I use to have a 410 until it stopped working after a short life.
I know you said you messed with all sorts of buffer setting, but mine ONLY worked within a variable 2-4 increments in the buffer settings! my setup was similar to your, with only one other track playing in live while recording. If memory serves me correct, I had to keep my buffer between a weird number of 96-99 to avoid that same exact crackling you speak of. Just be patient and try every increment around that area.
good luck..
"It's more fun to compute". Yeah, when you know what you're doing!
