BCR2000 with Live 8

Post by lovecry » Wed Jan 05, 2011 12:15 pm

Hello all - this is my first post here but I've used the forums frequently since I started using Ableton so you're my go-to guys for issues of this type. Before I get into the problem I should just say that I'm not much of a techie and I'm only just getting started in the MIDI world, so please be gentle with me!

Basically I want to get as hands-on with Ablton as possible, so I've been slowly acquiring gear. I'm currently using a Launchpad and I had been teaming it with the Novation Nocturn. The problem was that I wanted more knobs, so I ditched the Nocturn and went for a Behringer BCR2000, which I'm told is a great bit of kit.

Now, I got home with the the BCR and I'm finding it tricky to get the thing set up. It isn't appearing in the Input/Output section of the Preferences> Midi controllers menu. I have it set as the control surface, but the BCR doesn't appear as an Input/Output. My guess is that I'm maybe missing a driver or something like that?

The second problem (and I'm hoping this will be solved by working out the installation issue) is that I want to use the BCR as a controller for effects in Ableton and that's it. I want to be able to assign everything myself and avoid any presets etc. Is there any kindly soul who can, in a nutshell, tell me how to achieve this? And how to save it?

So to sum up - how do I install it correctly and how do I go about assigning everything myself, avoiding (or even deleting) the presets and then go about saving those assignments.

Thanks in advance!

You can get the firmware and drivers from the Behringer web --> site http://www.behringer.com/EN/Support/B-C ... loads.aspx. You have to scroll down quite a way to get to the BCR2000 section. I think the manuals are available somewhere on their site as well.

If you want to program all the knobs yourself then it is best not to select it as a control surface in Live. Just turn on the "remote" option against the BCR2000 input and output.

Now you can use the MIDI map function in Live to map the controls to functions in Live. These settings are saved in the Live Set.

I've never changed the default program in my BCR other than to change the toggle mode of some of the buttons.
