My APC40 knobs have a mind of their own! Help!
My APC40 knobs have a mind of their own! Help!
Have had the APC40 for about 6 months now and love it but I've run into some glitches that are really hurting my DJ sets. I'm only using EQ3 for the knobs, and when i turn them, they usually move themselves and jump +1 or -1 db without me even touching the knobs. To get to the point, my knobs aren't accurate and change db's when I barely touch it. They seem VERY sensitive. They will move to even the slightest touch, and when I'm mixing I can never accurately get my db levels right. For example, If I want my mid's to go down to -5 db, I will turn the knob, and instead of stopping at -5db it jumps to another level. Can anyone explain this? I'm using default mapping right now, and I'd like to get a template so I can have EQ3 on two channels at the same time but I want to make sure I don't have to send my APC40 to Akai first for repair. Would really appreciate any sort of help, I miss mixing on the APC40 without having to worry about where my db levels will jump in my set.

Does everything else work well? The knobs on my APC40 are all very smooth with a decent amount of resistance. They don't feel as solid as some of my DJ mixers, however they do provide accurate control. Your's sounds broken.

Everything else works fine. I don't use too many of the functions, just 2 channels for tracks, 2 channels for loops, and eq3 on the knobs. I'd like to take things to the next level though and start gigging with the APC40, but I'll need a template for mixing 2 channels at the same time. I don't want to invest in a NativeKontrols template when I have all these glitches with my knobs, so I'm trying to figure out if I'll have to send this thing to Akai. Seems like it. I know I can mix multiple channels with an external soundcard and mixer but I'd like to do this with an APC40 as a standalone.CivicRydr wrote:Does everything else work well? On a side note, I'm considering returning the APC40 for a full refund and buying a UC33E or Trigger Finger for djing.

You're in the same boat as me as far as trying to use the APC 40 for gigs only. I've had mine for few weeks now and so far no issues. I'm still battling with warping different genera of music but other then that the APC 40 has been good to me and is nice and solid.

I couldn't find a solution to this problem, and Akai doesn't think I can fix it on my own, so I'll be sending it back for repair this weekend. Apparently this is a rare hardware defect. Don't get it twisted though, this unit is built like a monster, and this is a very isolated issue.
I remember when I first received mine, being a traditional dj, Ableton and the APC40 seemed too complicated, and I was ready to send it back within hours. I ended up staying the course, learned Ableton, and now it's the only thing I want to DJ with in a live setting. Judging by how the default mappings aren't catered for the DJ (You can only mix eq on 1 channel at a time), this unit seems like it's made for production, but with a good DJ template, it'll be a beast for live mixing.DJHiKe wrote:You're in the same boat as me as far as trying to use the APC 40 for gigs only.
