Re: Cracks & pops when starting or stopping playback
Phenom II x 6 1055T, Win7 32 bit, Asus Mobo, 4GB ram, Radeon 4350 video card, Profire 2626, Firewire drivers in legacy mode. Live 8.2 (Superior 2, Pod Farm, PSP SQuad, Stylus RMX)
Cracks and pops also when starting or stopping playback.
Happens when I hit stop and wait a good 20 seconds (the cpu on the 6 cores goes back down low to near idle) Press play and it crackles and pops. When I press stop and quickly play again whilst all the CPU cores are still ramped up to about 10% each there is no popping and clicking.
Happens at ALL Buffer sizes and even on small sets. Happens with lots of ram and cpu to spare.
Also interesting is audio glitching when 1 track only is playing out of say 10. The 1 track plays (could be pod farm guitar track or a synth) and the CPU really peaks out and there is glitching. When all other tracks kick in CPU stableizes and no more glitching occurs.
Happens at all buffers.
Gave reaper a whirl and made an almost identical project. This problem never occured.
NB. Have done all recommended audio tweaks. Turbo core boosting is off.
User since live 4.
Any ideas appreciated. I have run out. I have run thesycon latency check and have not been able to source any problem.
All my drivers are up to date.

Re: Cracks & pops when starting or stopping playback
Above problem solved for my system:
In Bios disabled:
"Cool and Quiet + Secure Virtual Machine Mode + ASUS Core Unlocker and C1E Support"
Followed Sweetwater's Windows 7 Optimization Guide. http://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/dow ... _Guide.pdf
Running 8.2 as administrator.
Running Firewire Via Chipset in Legacy mode for the Profire 2626.
Lan is also disabled in the bios.
No more glitching on heavy projects even at 64 buffer setting latest MAudio Drivers. No More crazy CPU movement. Even with Netgear wireless internet and online armour running it is fine now.
Hope this helps!
EDIT: No glitching when pressing play any more but the occassional small "click" noise when pressing stop depending on where I press stop with in the song.

Re: Cracks & pops when starting or stopping playback
Did anyone ever resolve this? I heard a few pops myself not all the time but once in a while I did. The way I got it fixed was lowering the buffer size in preferences. Not sure if you guys have tried this or not but for me when I did this it seems to have fixed those pop and crackel noises.

Hi, if you're have these issues and freezing/flattening isn't helping, then please contact Ableton technical support: http://www.ableton.com/support
Re: Cracks & pops when starting or stopping playback
You know, I've tried that. You guys couldn't help. Dom told me that because my problem wasn't reproducable by anyone on your end nor on the forums(!!!), it wasn't a bug in Live's code and so I was out of luck.Ableton_David wrote:Hi, if you're have these issues and freezing/flattening isn't helping, then please contact Ableton technical support: http://www.ableton.com/support
I repeat: The problem was not reproducable at Ableton HQ, so it was by definition not a problem. Has anything about this changed in the meantime?
Re: Cracks & pops when starting or stopping playback
It gets worse as a project gets bigger.
The CPU spikes are there ALWAYS even on newer projects. The cracks and pops happen when the CPU can't cope with this spike. My current project has a point in which, if you start playback there, it spikes to 120% (ableton meter) then stabilises to 60%, whereas if playback had started elsewhere, it sails through it at 60%. I posted a video a couple of pages ago illustrating this.
Insane!
I'm in 8.2.1 now and since then I've upgraded to 6GB RAM.

Re: Cracks & pops when starting or stopping playback
I've noticed lately that there are so many bugs and annoyances that disappear once you've got plenty of "headroom"
as far as CPU and RAM go. On my laptop, I quickly reach and surpass 40-50% on Live's CPU meter, and pretty much
everything gets buggy: the clicks and pops, slow response time for the simplest of tasks, glitches - and, of
course, crashes. Particularly when dealing with VST's, you can get strange, sudden crashes that give you "fatal errors",
or some other scary messages. I tried freezing an Absynth instance, e.g., which was
choking my entire project: instant crash. I dragged the same track into a new project later, and freezing it
was no problem). This weekend, I had a chance to work on my latest project on my desktop, which is a quad core
at 2.66 Ghz with 4GB RAM (as opposed to my laptop, which is a dual core 2.2 Ghz w/2 GB RAM), and it's amazing
how huge the difference is; I could simply have fun, play around, and toss in all the plugins I felt like:
Massive, Absynth, FM8... Not even a hiccup.

Re: Cracks & pops when starting or stopping playback
any fix on this??? same thing on 8.2.2 on a mbp i7 processor... serious pain
Re: Cracks & pops when starting or stopping playback
bump.
CPU spikes every time I hit the stop button...in fact, if I open the set fresh and just hit stop 3 times, the CPU jumps north of 100%.
also noticed that, while I'm playing guitar through Live, if I hit "stop all clips", I get clicks/drop-outs...even if no clips were playing.
