I use ableton 8 for live performances and i was wondering does anyone have any suggestions for a reasonably priced foot pedal to control live.
I don't need it for anything special just the essentials as ill have the tracks made beforehand.

Hi. Kid Beyond has a video on the Ableton website. Go to the archives and pull up Kid Beyond. He uses a Liquid Foot MIDI Controller. They're not cheap.

There's also the Behringer MIDI Foot Controller FCB1010
http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/FCB1010.aspx
They're not as expensive.
Then there's the Boss FC-300 Midi Control Pedal Dual x
As a warning, I have never worked with any of these products. Do your research and homework before considering which one you want to purchase. I am not in any position to recommend one over the other. You should ask around about them in this forum and possible other forums that specifically deal with the individual product.
Good luck.

Re: foot pedal for live performances?
I can add a little more information about the Behringer FCB1010. (I own it, but don't use it very often.)
in general, there's a vivid FCB1010 user community:
There's custom firmware http://www.ossandust.be/
a yahoo group http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/fcb1010/
and some control surface scriptshttps://bl0rg.net/~manuel/fcb1010-mappings/ (this is old and no longer maintained, but afaik people have taken this script and added their own hacks)
All in all: Since the controller is quite cheap and has a good €/knop ratio, you might just want to get one and start digging into it.
enjoy!

Re: foot pedal for live performances?
Thanks for all the info,
I am primarily a guitarist in our group and at a friend's gig i noticed the need to be able to halt the music dead, when a wandering drunk started to stand on amp leads.
I will look into the Behringer FCB1010 but if i feel thatmore is required down the line id rather buy once than twice.
