This track has stuff in it. Need mastering feedback.

http://soundcloud.com/speciman-squared/ ... unmastered

New 'Prog' type track. Please listen and leave comment/feedback.

Track is unmastered. Would like to have track mastered by someone else eventually, but till then, I am DIY.
Any comments on mastering issues with this track very welcome.

Thanks

I noticed it's unmastered so I'll leave my comments at the door on that one, but I dig the tribal vibe (if you weren't intending that please take it as a compliment :p). And the little clicks and embellishments to the percussion are a nice touch, along with the panning. You clearly understand what you want, so nice one!

Thanks noizesurge for listening and feedback.

I wasn't quite sure about the panning. Most I'm happy with, but I thought some of it may have been a bit obvious, to the point of distraction....
Not sure yet.

I'm interested on your comments re what it needs in regards to mastering though.
Please feel free to comment on what you think it needs in this area.

Thanks, Si

Kick could be a little deeper. The bassline has some nice sub ferqs here and there, but the kick sounds too hard, not deep enough. Overall not a lot of high end in the track either, sounds a tad dull. Especially in the drums, not many cymbals or anything to fill out the high end.

Thanks for your feedback Tarekith.

Re the kick, I actually lifted some mid freq in the kick to bring it up in the mix as it was getting a little lost with the sub.
I also rolled a fair bit of sub in the kick, so it wouldn't interfere too much with the sub, but may have overdone it a tad.

I do feel the high end is a bit sparse, but trying to avoid the obvious h/hats.... but will see what i can do to lift the high end of the track.

When you say, 'sounds a tad dull', are you refering to the freq range, or the track as a whole?? :)

Thanks again,
Si
