I'm thinking this has been beat to death here, and on every forum, but I have yet to get a straight answer explaining as to what exactly is going on in my system.
I have:
Q6600/4GB Ram/Windows7
Interface: TC Electronics Konnekt 24d
MIDI Interface: AXIOM 61 1st gen. (connects through usb)
The skinny:
As far as recording audio goes, I don't really seem to have a problem with latency. Doubling and tripling vocal parts seems to workout OK, so i'm not too worried on that end.
I am using REASON through rewire and have a pretty elaborate rig that's wired into Ableton. FINE.
My problem arises, when I am trying to play even a simple piano part along with some audio from reason, and the notes all seem to come in a tad early by a couple of samples, but it seems even throughout a recording of several bars.
I have tried the following:
- Stripped down the session to just a piano....
- turned off lan
- checked my IRQ's
- messed about with midi sync, to no avail.
- monitored reason through a separate channel and did not monitor the channel that was recording the midi data.
- various buffer settings, I left it at 256 and it seems playable.
HERE IS AN IMAGE OF THE PROBLEM: http://imgur.com/qjd6CAudio at the top, MIDI at the bottom.
I'm at my wits end with trying to figure this out and wonder why everyone else (PTools/mac people) don't suffer through these problems. It really is the only thing holding me back from having a decent project studio working for me... I have tried my hardest to avoid making a thread about this, but I just can't go on anymore.... forward, that is.
Please help
EDIT: It just occurred to me, would going AXIOM61>INTERFACE>PC perhaps reduce lag? I have a midi cable, i would just need to buy a power supply...
