Presonus Studio One Artist for $20.11 (£12.88)

Post by siliconarc » Wed Jan 12, 2011 1:28 pm

pretty insane deal. thought it might be a US-only deal, but bought from UK just now for £12.88 (usually £175, although i doubt they sell many at that - its free with presonus hw).
as long as you change the currency to USD you'll see the $20.11 price.
offer runs out on 16th jan so be quick.

after 30 mins of messing with it, just dragging in audio files etc, i'm really impressed. the automation and midi editing has some brilliantly simple tricks, stuff that the Live devs should look at and pinch ideas from. BUT presonus decided to strip the Artist version of 3rd party plugin support, which is a problem for many. still, you can upgrade to the full version for $199 which i'll probably do at some point.

Looks ok, but no vst support spoils it for me.

yep it's a pisser, but it's a shithot daw otherwise. loads of included plugins. well worth buying, if only for the cheap upgrade path.

Yeah, upgrade to Pro for only $199. That's a great deal, Studio One is an amazing DAW.

FYI the Pro Version can be had for $249 crossgrade price. So if you are pretty convinced you're going to buy the full version it's a good deal, ($30 off the competitive upgrade path) otherwise I would try the demo for Pro first, make sure you click with it.

Personally third party VST support and how a DAW handles that is probably the single most important feature you can evaluate for current bugs and problems, so it's a deal killer for me to not have VST support. Worst feature they could have stripped in their light version.

its $299 for the crossgrade now, so the upgrade is a much better deal. $80 better off.

just been looking at the comparison list between pro and artist versions, and they've removed hardly anything really. it's just the plugin thing that could kill the deal for many. but its still a great daw with loads of plugins included and a really full feature set. and it's $20!!! for recording bands, comping and mixing in the box, its a total steal.

No brainer.

Buy the Artist and get the upgrade through EBay.

Combined you're still at or just under $200.

Here's a 'make an offer' on EBay:

Looks like he'll sell it for ~$170 + $5 s/h(click on '1 sold' under 'Other Info')

I've been using the Pro version for about four months for my mixing. Love it.

p.s. It has a 64-Bit installer so all you >4GB RAM fanatics can go to town.. ;)

p.s.s. I just realized I'm celebrating my 5+ years with the Abes.

in all these cases you're still talking about spending hundreds of dollars, not simply 20 dollars, so AFAIC it's a sucker-deal!

unless you genuinely want a whole new DAW right now....in which case, this is great I guess? but does a 20 dollar to two-hundred and 20 dollar "crazy" conversion really mean you need a whole new DAW in your setup?

If someone was to get another DAW to compliment Live, Studio One would be at the top of my list. Their audio editing and arrange view options are really well done.

Okay, I bit on it just to check it out. How does one install all of the packs that came with it?
