so all my questions in the past were about production,so if this sounds like im repeating myself sorry. So I just started DJing MP3's or prefferably WAV files. So Im totaly lost on what you ableton DJ's use for the delays, filters, compressors or limiters . IM used to using Traktor where alot of that is done for you . So heres what I was curious what your using .At most I will have 3 faders up at one time with 3 songs playing.
EQ. 3band or 8band( I would think 3 band is much easier to map )
Compressor- On the master channel (right?) what kind? -I used a kick compressor .
Limiter- Should I use this on the master
Delay- I read somewhere to use the Simple Delay. Are you putin this on the send channel and just turning up the send knob on the track . Because I noticed when i place a delay on the channel and activate it and then turn the fader down the dealy doesnt echo away. So I was forced to put it on the send channel .ALSO- ( & which time singature are alot of you DJ's using ,etc etc )
Auto-Filter- which setting are you DJ's using for this ( cut h is what I used )
P.s. - are you guys using the crossfader )

Re: Question for House/techno DJ's in Ableton
Do you have turntable or cdjs? or have you owned those items at anytime in the past? If so I am not sure you will like mixing inside the box.
I use an external mixer for mixing dj style in Live. I only map triggers and efx to a midi controller. I have never found a midi controller which could replace mixing on an analog mixer.
If you are mixing inside the box, and plan on using Lives plugins, go with eq8. I dont run a limiter or compressor on any of my channels.

I don't use Live to dj, but here's a few thoughts anyway:
Live's EQ3 is well documented as being something that colours the sound slightly(even when neutral). Won't make too much difference if you're cranking it through a big sound system but it's worth keeping in mind. If you use EQ8 for big sweeps and stuff, make sure to right click and turn on "High Quality" for best results.
The tracks you play should already be compressed and limited if they are professional recordings - imho you'd just want a limiter on the master in case you have any crazy feedback loops or anything that goes out of control. Basically you just want to make sure that the master channel never goes into the red, so the club owner doesn't use it as an excuse if you destroy their sound system.
Delay seems like it would be a matter of individual taste. I think traditional djs would only use a simple-delay sort of sound, but you could probably get some outlandish effects by using a filter delay or such. Put it in the audio track and use the wet/dry if you want to ease out the original signal, or put it in a send if you want to add it on top. Timing-wise, if you're playing house/techno then setting the delay to 4 or 2 will make it repeat on the beat, a marching sort of feel. 3 or 6 will be more of a shuffley waltzey feel between the kicks, and something like 5 would sound more complex. I might be oversimplifying quite a lot, but I'm guessing you just want the basics, right?
Auto filter again is a matter of taste, depending on the settings. Keep in mind that some of the simpler aspects of the auto filter work the same way as you just repeatedly turning up or down the high mid or low of your eq. Cut H is basically like someone going crazy on your high eq knob.
Well, hope that helps. I think I went on for a bit longer than I planned on.

The slight bump around the cutoff usually makes it nearly unsable - far better making you own based on EQ8. I think tarekith has sometthing like this allready done in his DJ tools sets of racks.Cezband wrote:Live's EQ3 is well documented as being something that colours the sound slightly(even when neutral).
