Live 8.2 / NI Kontakt and inactive RAM

Post by wo1 » Sun Jan 16, 2011 5:16 pm

Hello there...

My setup:

Ableton Live 8.2
RME Fireface 400
Macbook Pro 5.1 with 4GB RAM

Experience strange things with Live... I have 10 projects through live performances and I need to switch them for every song we play. Every project features NI Kontakt with Berlin Grand Piano.

So, i open project ?1, we play and everything is ok. But with every next project I open, inactive RAM begin to grow. When I open project ?7, Ableton begins to drop audio, because it needs more RAM. Inactive ram about 2Gb, active & wired about 1.5Gb and free RAM is about 30Mb.

So why RAM remains inactive? Why Live won't release it every time I close previous project?

I'm having a pretty much the exact same issue, although my set is just one project with many songs open. The more songs I play the more the ram moves from free to inactive eventually causing dropouts like you said. Hoping there's an easy way to free up more of the inactive ram faster without interrupting the music. Anybody?
