combining live tracks problem

ive got around 20 tracks made in ableton and ive begun to bring all the samples into one ableton live set in order to mix them all together. so far iv'e loaded up 4 tracks worth of samples (around 27 of the columns(channels?) are now in use) and so far have mixed only 2 of the tracks together, which has made around 7minutes of audio. At this point ableton is now working stupidly slow, it takes a minute to move the mouse from one side of the screen to the other, the rest of my computer also slows down to this rate when i load the track, and playback is impossible. it has got to the point where i cannot add any more to the set.

what is the best way to get around this? ive heard a lot about converting to RAM but i have no idea how to do this, and if this isnt going to solve the problem what are the alternatives? i'm very pleased with the work ive done so far on this set and i'd be gutted if i werent able to finish it to its full potential.

if anyone can help me with this one, it would be much appreciated.

If you have no clue about how to assign a sample to the ram. Then i would suggest reading the manual.
If you look to an audioclip, you will see buttons like "hi-q" "fade" "RAM".

I'm not sure. I have no clue what system you have, what platform your running it on and how much ram you have.
But if you have RAM to spare and load big sets with lots of audio clips, loading some audio into the RAM might save you some headaches.

i run a very basic IBM T22 thinkpad, basic soundcard but have lots of spare memory to play around with, i understand due to this ableton will not run to its maximum capacity when tested, and i am fine with this as i never intend to play ableton live 'live', at least until get a new setup but this has got to the point where i can't add any more whatsoever!

I would advise to upgrade

Not to diss your system. But if you plan on running that much tracks. You would be better off with something more geared toward performance.

But you can pull it off with a less powerful system though. Then you just need to resample allot of your "mangled" audio clips.
