Dell Studio 1735: Stinker
I’ve recently decided to upgrade to a £1000 i7 Laptop because my 2008 £600 Dell Studio 1735 was a real stinker at running Ableton 8 with external hardware and plug-ins (loads of pips and drop outs) even though on paper it should have been fine….
…tried everything to fix it nothing worked…
So for the benefit of anyone looking to invest in a new machine I have one question for anyone else running Ableton on budget and midrange Laptops up to a value of £800 (950 Euros, $1300 US): is your machine a little gem or an absolute stinker at running Ableton 8.
Please give the reasons for your judgment, for example details of any incredibly demanding tasks it can manage or in incredibly mundane ones it can’t.

Re: Budget/midrange Laptop a little gem or an absolute stinker
ableton runs fine on my aldi medion laptop 2.5 years old now 2 gigs mem. running xp
the big screen get's laughed at by apple/ibm snobs but it gives nice extra track view.
live midi notes (external and asci keyboard) drop nice in time
i would not recommand it for daily carrieing around ,it is heavy and that how mine broke once
but i also like the 3 yr warrenty deal, and i used it too, without problems
