HI
I play guitar and related string instruments in a world music band. I am interested filling out the sound of the band in live performance by triggering loops when we are playing live.
If I do this I imagine that during any individual song I might want to trigger (and turn off or fade out), 2-5 different percussion loops, a quirky one shot ( like a sample of a political speech) and 1 or 2 pad type loops. I imagine that some songs might need 1-2 loops some 6-7 and that something with 5-7 loops would probably be as complicated as we get with this. So our needs for this type of thing are relatively simple as the focus in this ensemble is on the live playing.
When we play live it is usually 10 -15 songs in a set and not always the same songs and not always the same order. I think I want to have it set up so that there is one Reason or Live file per set, I do not want to be opening new projects during a performance.
So I am looking for suggestions about what people think is the best way to achieve this: I would like to be able to do this with gear that I already have and will list below. However if people think that something like a MIDI foot controller would make a big difference then I will consider getting one)
I currently have Cubase 5.5, Live 8, and reason 3 (5 is on the way in the mail).
Although I am most skilled and comfortable working in CUBASE, it takes for ever to load and I just think the other two options are more reliable for live performance.
So in LIVE I guess I could load all the clips into session view, assign them to MIDI triggers and away we go.
I think REASON might be a good way to do this. Load loops into REX, or redrum, or NNXT. ( If I want to load loops into Octorex do they need to REX files or can any wave file be used?)
AS you you might be able to tell I have an idea how to make this happen but I am hoping that people on the forum can share, tips, procedures and suggestions, to reduce my experimentation time.
I might need to trigger the loops with a MIDI foot controller. IF I go this route are their devices that people like, or devices that people think I should stay away from .
Something lie this:
http://www.long-mcquade.com/products/63 ... roller.htm
It looks useful but is physically much larger than what I want cause I already have to much gear at gigs, especially when travelling by air to get to the gig.
Gear that I already have includes:
Oxygen 8 (original)
Novation remote zero sl
Roland GR 33
Korg – Micro Korg
Okay please let the suggestions and tips come my way!
