Looks great over all .
That said I'm not that wild on the MP3 support feature myself. :cry:
I'm not a big one for DJ centric features being added and I see no need for MP3 support in a pro-end daw for what little it's worth.
That said though for those who DJ with Live and perform LIVE with it alot these are probably much needed features.
I would have like to have seen a better integration between Session and Arranger view which is IMHO the weakest link in LIVE at the moment.
The rest of the features look suprisingly good though.
Very pleased with what's happened to Simpler I might add.
Though I would have liked to have seen LFO's added to Impulse as mod sources also (for gate divide triggering effects on single hits / filter and pitch mod per hit in a kit) and all LFO's to have tempo sync option.
Track freeze and the new looping options in clip properties look uber killer also.
Nice compliment of newer effects I might add (makes for a well rounded and creative bread and butter collection).
That beat stutterer with grain delay will no doubt be rather delicious.
Also I would have been willing to pay $100 extra for Operator to be included in the update as a standard instrument .
A big two thumbs up from what I've read so far and this new uber warping algo looks very interesting.

I am thrilled with all the features. I have no room to complain and I will be completly satisfied if the feature I was hoping for are not in this upgrade.
I use vocals in almost all my songs and I have dreamed of having overlapping clips with fades (crossfades). I know there is a multi-track workaround but to have this all on one track would make 5 perfect.

Having said that....this announcement has made my day!!

I've no desire to see Live get all DAW-ish. A few DAW bits are good to help overall workflow, but enhancing Live as an rapid audio sketchpad/live performance tool is what I always hope Ableton focuses on. (that you can play like an instrument)

If Ableton look like they are pursuing Cubase SX (etc), then I'll stop upgrading. I already have Cubase, it is far ahead of Live for what it does for that linear highend multitrack audio/midi vs video, mixdown, automation etc etc (this has often been discussed on the forum). Live doesn't need to go there and try to emulate that detail.

Live CAN fully produce music too. But for the love of George Bush, keep it as a instrument that you can drive with controllers in real-time to build music on the fly, rather than chase the already-very-well-served DAW market for clicking, dragging and tweaking like an accountant.

The day that the Ableton development pendulum swings too far in the DAW direction is the day we know the inspiration is gone and they ran out of innovative ideas for Live as it was originally conceived. From then on they are just following the market, rather than leading it in their own unique way as they are now.

Thanks Ableton, now I'm a drooling idiot. Can't believe how many new features have been rolled out for this one, the new clip transport looks CRAZY, midi assignable for realtime tweaking also decoupled loop in/out, automatic warp markers, browser file management, beat repeat etc etc etc...gaagaagaaaaaaa

Interestingly though I think the Live features are pretty well implemented already myself.
That said the pendulum for me swings the other way.
If Live gets any more performance / dj oriented features I'll probably start looking elsewhere for an app the stradles the void between serious DAW and performance tool more to my liking.
That said I could just stick with an earlier version of LIVE if that's the case.
Obviously close too 100% of people seem pretty happy with these features.
So that's a good thing in itself.
We all use Live differently and I think the direction it's moving in is very a smart one business and consumer wise.
I just would have put Dual CPU support + Altivec for Mac & Hyperthreading and possibly SSE2 coding for PC as a higher priority than Mp3 import and support.
That's just me though.
I really have no complaints with the other features though.
Very impressive indeed.
Live 5 will be very interesting to beta IMHO .
