Asio Issues

After doing some research I have learned that using an ASIO driver is the best way to go to reduce latency. I have downloaded the newest and older versions of the driver and can't seem to get any sound. I can set the driver to ASIO in Live and can see data in the clip and master's volume, but I hear nothing. I read in the forums that disabling the Wavetable Synth can help, I do not even see this in my soundcard's options, I also do not see ASIO in the soundcard options...should I?

Also, every time I've downloaded the ASIO driver it has an error message, I continued anyway, but I suppose this could be a problem in itself.

Any way to get around this? Should I try a different driver, or is asio definitely the best in reducing my latency issues?

What was the error message?

I had a lot of troubles figuring ASIO out too. But trust me, its worth it.

You have to disable the MS wavetable synth in Live. Go to the preferences, then midi preferences and disable it for the outputs.

Then go to the audio preferences. Select ASIO as the sound device. Click "hardware setup" and it will pop up with the window. Click the wrench icon, then click the "plus" next to your device to unfold it. HERES THE KEY: You have to have all other outputs disabled except your speakers. This means SPDIF or whatever else you have has to be disabled! ALSO the second key! If your speakers has a red X next to it instead of the green thing, that means the device is in use by another program. That means you have to close down any youtube windows or whatever else you have open so the device can be freed up. Then it will turn green.

Now sound should come out of your speakers, unless you need to fiddle with the other checkboxes on the right of the config box. Let me know if that worked or you need more help.

Glad I could help. Thats the exact same feeling I had when I got it working! I was like, holy crap, I can hear myself while recording! Before I took one earphone off so i could hear myself and used no monitor. I never knew how big a difference hearing yourself could make.

You actually inspired me to make a tutorial on it (i'll have it done later). Maybe the kind folks on the website will include it in the tips and tricks post or something.
