Quality not quantity...?
Are you really achieving nothing?
I would have thought you would have been gaining working knowledge... what you like or don't like about Live etc...
A good reminder that even just f****** about doing non-creative stuff or even just testing for quirks etc in whatever tools you use is useful if in the end it helps you use the tools more effectively and know what they good for and what they ae not good for etc.

Nice!

I have recently shut down my involvement with a number of different projects including my own main one. There were a number of reasons for this but I decided that I would actually spend less time doing music this year. 2010 was insane, two EPs with one project, Two albums with two different projects and some collab on a different album.

I need to spend more time with the family and less time sitting in a darkened studio. So i decided this year will be a 'I'll do it when crteativity strikes with no endgame in mind just for the fun of it' kind of year.

Quite liberating actually. :D

...would'nt call it nine to five....but i see my studio on daily bases...

Plus at least one over night session a week....

Still need long nights from time to time....still best time to write new stuff....
I'm afraid that will never change....

And is quality not the result of quantity? Sure every now and then someone looks down at their feet and finds a $20 bill, but most of the time you got moove a lot of rock to find some gold.
I mean that while I am still learning the basics I would rather do a lot of research finding the correct tutorials on what I am doing and how to go about it instead of opening up live and not having a clue about anything I am doing.

And to make matters even worse - I tend to waste time reading the forum rather than actually making music...

I think it also depends how you define "on your music". As far as how much time I spend actually writing, it comes in waves. I might not write for a month, and then suddenly that's ALL I do for a week.

But I think that creating sounds, reading blogs, thinking about music, listening to OTHER music is all actually part of time I "spend on my music". It has a massive impact but it's not time I am literally sitting in Ableton making a song.
