Launch Pad Velocity/Sustain

Post by JonHarry » Thu Jan 27, 2011 9:59 pm

Hey, just a quick question concerning the launchpad.

For one.... how do i have it control velocity?
-i.e. with drumkits when i press buttons all levels are the same, but if i want to controll their velocity with the launch pad how do i do that?

Secondly, how do i make it so when i push a button it "stays pushed"...
-example: when i have pieces of drum loops in impulse for example, i have to keep my finger pressed on the button so it plays the entire s sample, rather than having to simply press it once and have the sample play through.

thanks in advance!

Well, Launchpad is not velocity sensitive at all. A straightforward way to control it would be to put the Velocity Midi Effect on the channel you're using and either stick it to a specific velocity or add in a bit of randomisation to simulate more organic playing.

Second question doesn't seem so much like a launchpad question - I suppose you could either put your sample into a clip and activate it like that, or put it in a drum rack with simpler and adjust the threshold/decay settings (I forget which specific ones, and I'm not in front of Live right now) to make it play the entire sample when activated regardless of when you release the button.

Hope that helps! :)

Go and watch these videos. It will help you get around the velocity pad thing and for the money a hell of a lot more!
