does Live 5 have a Dual CPU Audio Engine?
i need this feature, and dont you think that now they implemented DAW such features that the live 5 cpu hit is going be greater than live 4, if this feature is not going to happen they should at least give us some kind of timeframe for it to happen.... intel, mac and AMD are all crossing over to dual core and within a year most new desktops are going to be dual core...
abes we need to know about this one...

Ever notice that when one uses Live in ReWire mode its CPU use goes from more then 50% (on a dual 2.5 G5!) to less then 10%????!!!!!!
Live is still doing all its tricks except sending the audio out the i/o device.
Obviously something is NOT optimized in Lives code...
Unfortunately, Live is flakey in ReWire mode.
(or ReWire is flakey...)
ggggrrr...

I empathise with mac users but surely you must know by now that certain programs just dont work well on a mac and Ableton live is one of them. if your music is important to you and you use Ableton Live it makes sense to go the PC route. I was amazed at how little I could get from a dual 2ghz G4 running Ableton Live. This was two years ago and it looks like its still the same problem for macs. Its a shame but I dont think your going to see much change here for some time? Also for my US brothers you have to bear in mind that in europe Apple macs are not popular at all. If your lucky you might find an apple mac store in your city and usually its in some back street somewhere with no stock.
I love OSx but performance just isnt worth the asking price imo.
my 0.02euro cents

fair enough, and i can see your point of view. i'd never swicth to using a PC though and i don't think that Live runs badly at all on my Mac. it's just my mac isn't as fast as a lot of PCs. but neither is it as expensive (try speccing up a 12" PC laptop and they come out more than a powerbook 12....strange but true)...
i think your 2Ghz g4 is a slip of the keyborad too....if only the g4 went up to 2Ghz and has a memery bus to match
point taken robin. I understand platform loyalty although I sometimes think folks can be overly loyal to an operating system at times. My G4 dual machine was the one with the very noisy fans. I can remember its exact mghz. I think it might have been a dual 1.8? or 1.6?
On ething I really liked about my Mac was using it for internet. no worries about viruses etc.

oh yeah....i'm not one of those...i'll use a windows machine if i had to (and have done)....just my *personal* pref is for the mac. as long as i can still get done what i need to get done. anyway that's enough blithering on from meJammo wrote:point taken robin. besides dual processor support what about some sort of system link thing? where ya can use another pc to run vst instruments and effects and have it all linked via ethernet or however it works???
infact it would be great if u could unload most of the vst - fx work to node pc's so ya arrangement page doesnt start to slow down and jerk when u hit high cpu loads
i think logic does it with other pcs as 'nodes' and a main sequencer computer - i would imagine alot of users would have more than one pc - or like me , my more powerfull laptop and a slowerdesk top pc for the internet..

I’d be seriously disappointed if they didn’t have Altivec/dual cpu support in L5. These are mature technologies that have been around for years and doubtless the Abes are aware that Live’s performance on Mac is not on a par with Win machines. The G5’s front side bus speed relative to the G4 makes it a completely viable platform for Live, but as with all computer based activity, any extra optimization you can squeeze out makes it that much more useful/enjoyable.
Mac users are certainly in the minority but music making attracts a larger percentage of Mac users than the general population, so I don’t think we’re talking about a segment that’s not worth catering to. At least, I hope that’s not their thinking…
