I'm not really too interested in immitating that aspect of his music, although I did learn a couple of things from that video. I'm more interested in how he does his vocals::: it's so different and innovative.

Backups, backups, backups, people.

Redundancy is your friend.
I back up my projects everytime I'm done with a session. I have 3 hard drives (1st: system/programs, 2nd: Projects, 3rd: Samples/project backups). I can't stand the thought of losing hard work.
And it's always good to have one off-site too, in case something blows up/you're robbed/alien invasion/etc.

Wow, great detailed ideas :::

Why did u suggest izotope? Is it the best or does it have a certain sound to it? Will melodyne or waves tune work?

When vocal correcting the phrases, were you saying to take the whole phrase that was going to be used, and pitch shift it to all octaves of C so that it can be played all across the keyboard?

Also, why did you say "Use the beginnng of words on lower notes,, the end on upper notes , and the cool sounding slices in between". What would you achieve by doing this? Sorry if I'm missing something obvious.
Thanks

Only suggested Nectar (cause of the demo to try out - as did not know you had one). - any pitch correction vst will do (melodyne, waves, antares, nectar, etc). Hell I think there are even a few free ones for pc... might give a dif flava.

Take the whole phrase and pitch correct it to C
and then
Take the whole phrase and pitch correct it to D
and then
Take the whole phrase and pitch correct it to E
etc, etc do this for the whole scale (whatever you are working in)
This way you can chop and select from each phrase (per note) and put the parts on the corresponding notes.
Like...
Chopped bits of the C line on C notes
Chopped bits of the D line on D notes

Select the cool bits from each line and put them on the right notes (that way you can play the sampler and all the vocal fx bits are still gonna be in tune). and you got lots of selection (128 dif notes). I skip correcting to the sharps and just extend the region of the sampler to cover those notes (D extends to D#).

I suggested putting the start of words on lower notes, then ends on upper notes and cool sounding slice bits in between... just for ease of remembering. You could put them in any order or way you like.. but I like some system in layout of a sampler.. just so that If I want to stutter the start of a word (NN NN NNin Nineteen) I can find it with as little plunking about as possible.

Make some Noize
Cheers

Imho
Lead Vocal (the singing)
Vocal Fx (melody behind the voacal - all the effected parts).

For the Lead - pitch correction (izotope Nectar - has a demo)

For Vocal FX - pitch correct the hell out of it. then chop & map out over a sampler
Pitch correct the entire vocal line to a single note (c, D, E ,F etc etc)
cut a few dif slices of each line (say.. the C line) and put that on all the C keys. So you can play the fx like a melody.
Repeat...So all the keys have a correstponding snippet of the vox on the right note of the sampler.
Use the beginnng of words on lower notes,, the end on upper notes , and the cool sounding slices in between.
Add a touch verb
Play that behind the Lead Vocal - sorta similar to the riddem - go crazy to start with..but let the Lead Vocal come thru - dont overpower it.
Use the pitch bend to glide the notes when you want.
Add some more glitch fx in fills (beat repaeat, grain delay, etc).
you are 100% correct, this is a common hip hop/R&B thing to do.

all he did, was pitch correct the shit out of it with something like melodyne or autotune, he then put it into a sampler and looped only a few cycles of the voice. He then made a melody out of it.

i'm just going to make 100 videos of skrillex techniques so KVR, Ableton, Gearslutz, & every other music related website can go back to normal

Please do!! I would eat them up! I get the feeling some folks who have been around a while are tired of people asking about various skrillex techniques because they are nothing new, although people treat his sounds like something they have never heard before. This just goes to show you that its not about making new sounds no one has ever heard before, or bashing anyone who has ever used a preset. What is important is that apparently Skrillex has used these sounds to make music that inspires people to ask... how did he get that sound? Just the fact that he sparks such thoughts means he is doing something right compared to the 99% of people making music out there that can't even get our attention. Personally, I like the Skrillex sound, I'll be seeing his this weekend in Austin and he is going to rip that place apart!

it's totally fine, it is a complex sound so i get why there are so many posts. i don't care for his music and i remember when Justice put out their album in 07 and there were 10000x the amount of threads for those guys sound. Anyways, when i'm done teaching this month i'll jump in w/ some advice and tutorials.

Sound like just Melodyne to me. Much copypasta.
