looping in place on the fly in arrange mode?
looping in place on the fly in arrange mode?
is there a way to punch in and out a loop area while performing in arrange mode?
or how to do it in session mode, like if it's a dj set?
is there an easier way than resampling your current master out into an empty session audio clip on it's own row/scene, trigger the clip via scene, and using F10 back to arrangement? that way still doesn't loop in place, the timeline in arrange mode keeps advancing.
you can use the loop region in arrange mode, but you have to assign it's start point to knob and shuttle it to the new location each time you want to loop in place (or use arrow/cmd keyboard controls). looking for punch in/out method for looping live performance. or even a method to have the loop region jump to where the playback head is in the arrange mode...
tried using looper and it's still the same amount of workaround. looper on own track set to B side crossfade, all other audio on A side crossfade.
has to be an easy way to loop in place?

Re: looping in place on the fly in arrange mode?
There are many ways of achieving this, in session mode you can map a button to set start and set length to create the loop, sadly then moving it requires you to click with the mouse on the loop brace and then use the arrow keys....
There are a couple of control surface scripts that do this more elegantly, search on WillJMarshall's work for how he achieves it with the APC40... In each case though you can only set a loop on a clip where the particular track is in focus at that time....
For looping with a button per track, being able to move a loop by it's length or a bar, halving and doubling by moving the start or end point then you'll need max4live...
You don't say what controller you're using but here's what i've done with the Novation Launchpad...
http://vimeo.com/18762683
If it's just looping you're looking for per track then have a look at my blog http://thestudiosessions.co.uk and use the Quick links in the right hand side menu to navigate to the Modul4r series, i've made a standalone Looper device that does much of what you're asking for...
Working in arrange view isn't something i've done in the past but i know from the Live Object Model (whats available to control through max4live) that the looping properties of arrange view are easily accessable....

Re: looping in place on the fly in arrange mode?
that's way cool. help me out here with a couple questions about what's going on there... obviously you can only focus one clip at a time, how do you change focus from clip to clip/track to track, or should i say how do you manage that? does it automatically focus the clip last triggered? or can you you trigger other clips and keep focus on the clip you're working on?
and the big question, is there a way to apply that to grouped tracks? so you can effect the whole as well as the ability to effect the individual tracks? there's a lot going on there for me to think about at the moment, i'd have to get my hands on it to fully grasp the potential and how it works. i'm using the maschine controller, so there's also a bit of figuring what's going on there with the launchpad.
or you only ever playing two clips at one time? seems like there's the one track that runs the whole time (track 2) and you loop on top of it in track 1. but when you do the send & return scene section, i can't see any clip activity.
how do you change scenes? is that all launchad control? do you have to have the scene selector window up to change scenes? is that merely (not merely) a visual guide to what scene you're working in? and you're *only* firing clips with the APC? took me a while to get there were two controllers in the equation.
what's the cpu usage on that setup (intel core 2 duo for example) with three or four clips active? i haven't paid a lot of attention to max for live, is that whole IAC driver thing a max creation and necessity? i haven't used IAC since the old koblo tokyo synths. if i don't own max i would obviously have to get on that yeah?
i can't remember, was there an ability to add midi tracks and control external plugins?
the modul4r series, that looks like it could be midi mapped to any controller pretty easily, any truth to that? do you need max for the modula4r?

No you can loop any of the tracks that you have in the focus of the red control box (APC40 or Launchpad) however this could be adjusted that it'd give you looping over 8 specific tracks....
As for group tracks, i haven't tried, they would appear as tracks but there's no looping functionality on the master of that group, however you could set up to 8 loops at once, the tracks would need to be visible....
You can use just one controller to change scenes, i use the APC40 for triggering clips and the like with the Launchpad for effects, again though the code was made so that the looping functionality follows the 8 track focus of either the APC40 or Launchpad....
The IAC driver is only necessary if you want to use this device in the M1di scene, whereby you've ogt eight pages of configurable midi buttons...
And yes the Modul4r Series was designed to be smaller building blocks without the complexity of internal mapping using control surfaces, as a result they can be mapped to any midi controller as all the GUI elements are live.objects...
And yes you need max4live for all of the devices....

Sadly i haven't the first clue about touchOSC, and unless an Ipad lands in my lap in the near future it'll be something that is very much on the backburner....ayanami wrote:and what about a launchpad template for touchOSC for those of us who might not own a launchpad, but might own an...

Re: looping in place on the fly in arrange mode?
thanks man, appreciate your time. going to think about the launchpad some more, i have the remote 25sl but i only use it for keys.
unless there's some proprietary business going on with the launchpad, in theory it seems like you (someone) could create a facsimile template of the launchpad layout. i assume there to be some paging going on with the launchpad to achieve it's full functionality, so the touchosc would probably have to a simplified "LE" version.
and this is probably a dumb question, but does it come with a diagram or pdf that shows the octap4d mapping visually?
is this a relatively low cpu usage setup? i've seen reaktor done a few different ways that does similar things to what we're talking about, but depending on the developer and the ensemble, cpu usage will completely vary.

Re: looping in place on the fly in arrange mode?
Here's an idea to try...
If you have the arrangement view parts cut into the section lengths you want to loop (or create empty midi clips that run the length of each section), can you then either click that bit and do Cmd-L (mac)/Ctrl-L (Win), or right click it and do "loop Selection".
If you want to go back in time obviously you'll have to put a marker at the start points too, so you can do Cmd-L, then click the play marker.
Simples! (unless I misunderstand what you want to do)

Re: looping in place on the fly in arrange mode?
CPU is relatively low and the device is very stable, i've resisted creating a version with lots of live objects to reduce cpu, as a result yes a lot of the paging is done by observing button presses through the control surface of the launchpad...ayanami wrote:thanks man, appreciate your time. going to think about the launchpad some more, i have the remote 25sl but i only use it for keys.

As for facsimile, theres the manual....
