Gotcha. I'll write your app, you come re-tile my bathroom.gjm wrote:timothyallan wrote:Just do it yourselfI started learning objective C last month and just pushed out my first app to a few beta testers today. Quit posting here and start doing it, costs you $99 bucks + some frustration and time.
I find it hard to operate my iPod Touch and use the remote for the TV... It would not make economic or even creative sense for me to even imagine for one sec that it would be advantageous to learn to code my own apps. Now give me a tree and a few power tools and things would be different

For sure! I have had my time running a small manufacturing outfit with 10-12 staff and all the crap that goes with that. I am doing much better by myself. Granted I don't have some of the nice bells and whistles, but I got lifestyle, peace and a clean conscience. Just started using a great invoicing app, cost $6. Made me time and money for other stuff.Digital_Damage wrote:Guess your plan is to always be small time.My goal is to run as much of my business from an iDevice.

No. You should really abandon the iDevice idea and immediately purchase a 400 blade Oracle server farm. I mean, gjm: You don't wanna even be PERCEIVED as small time, right? So I'd go for it.
iHaters. Whaddaya gonna do?

what's needed is an iPhone App that helps you to create your own iPhone Apps.

These guys are partially on the way http://www.appomator.com/ Reading their forum suggests that over time they will introduce features beyond just the playback of video. The wife and I are thinking of using this system to make apps for both of our businesses. Thing is though, its less about the appomator system and more about your skills in making video's, writing scripts and shooting that is. Its a start anyway and it would get us both into the world of iDevices.crumhorn wrote:what's needed is an iPhone App that helps you to create your own iPhone Apps.

Re: I wish I could code iPhone Apps
Yeah, I mean the whole app building thing needs a seriously robust front end piece like.....Flash, lol.
I've only seen the basic kit that Apple includes when you join the SDK - where there's a very limited number of graphic tool kit stuff you can use. Beyond that, it seems like it's a whole shitload of script work.
But then again I don't know. Doing a Google search for 'How To Create An iPad app' doesn't exactly reveal the secrets to how to do amazing shit like Konkreet Performer's graphics, lol.

Re: I wish I could code iPhone Apps
I learned objective-c a year or so ago after many years with other C-based languages and Java - I found it pretty simple - as long as you have a grasp of OOP concepts and MVC design patterns, it's basically just down to syntax and familiarising yourself with Apple's objects.timothyallan wrote:yeah, but I had to start from square 1 with this. Granted, the programming concepts are similar to other languages/OS's so I'd have a head start in that respect. If you have the headspace for it, it's just like learning a 'real' language.
