deactivate clips in a way that is midi-mapable

Post by slx » Wed Feb 09, 2011 10:42 pm

hello,

i would like to activate/deactivate individuel clips with an midi-mapped hardware button. unfortunately the clip activate/inactivate software button is not midi-mapable.

does anyone know a workaround?
an alternative could be mute an individuel clip.

the idea is to use e.g. the button matrix of the launchpad to activate/deactivate individuel clips and construct with follow actions a kind of sequencer.

thanks,
slx

not exactly what you're asking about, but this is what Ableton has implemented...

go into midi map mode and a hidden set of boxes will show up at the bottom of the clips. those buttons stop the clip in that track for the selected scene.

use that in conjunction with the scene up/down/scroll buttons at the ride side of the GUI, about a 1/4 of the way up.

so... scroll to the scene (buttons or knob) then select the track to kill.

have you tried setting the launch mode to 'toggle' instead of 'trigger'? that way you can stop the clip with the same button you triggered it with

also, for using the launchpad as a sequencer, try this: http://www.nativekontrol.com/LPC-Live.html

really turns the launchpad into a powerhouse - amazing stuff

@abletontrainer thanks, i tried toggle instead of trigger, but it does not work for my setup. the LPC thing seems pretty cool and complex. anyway i use my own little sequencer for the launchpad.

@outershpongolia clyphx is awesome, thanks for the tip! with it one has access to the clip activation function. i already managed to do wha i want with a selection command combined with the clip activation toggle function. unfortunately it works only like expectated while the transport is not running. maybe clyphx can do it but me not. i dig depper. nevertheless, clyphx is a really great tool!

best,
slx
