'Smear' fx - tapehead engaging tape VST?

Post by sadkin » Fri Feb 11, 2011 5:02 pm

I know there are a dozen tape modeling plug-ins out there but i am looking for an effect that 'smears' audio briefly, in a dramatic way, in order to duplicate the sound of a big 2" tape machine as the head engages the tape. The closest i have found is Waves old Doppler effect but as i fiddle around with the parameters i find that i can't quite get it right.

Are there others?...maybe a rack combination of live fx that i have over looked?...do any of the tape modelers do this like UAD's Studer/Nebula's vtm-m2/magnetic or am i barking up the wrong tree looking at tape modelers like these?
