I know this song is really old, but I just got introduced to it...I love the sound of this song.

Can the experts break this song down and give some techniques on achieving this sound? Not that I want to copy it, but I want to learn from it and incorporate it into my music.

thanks!

Well, the hook is basically a sped up sample.

As a side note - a lot of producers will call this cheap. Well, imho, that's BS. Electronic dance music was founded on samples - without samples, House, DNB/Jungle, Hip Hop, and all the subgenres would be non-existent.

EDIT : And here's the vid for the second sample in Face to Face-

Thanks for being helpful : )

What is the name of that 1st song? I searched the lyrics, but couldn't find anything

For some of the Discovery samples there's an album called Discovered that it comprised of a number of the songs that are sampled in the album.
Korg EMX-1, Korg KP3, Korg KM-2, Korg Radius-R, Korg R3, Akai APC40, Akai APC20, Edirol UA-101, Cakewalk UM-2G

I know this is my first post hello all.
When face to face was being produced I know for a fact that daft punk and Todd had 70 samples each at hand to build the track but whether or not the youtube videos are on the right track will never be known as Todd is always tight lipped on what he uses.
If its any help to you he kind of goes in detail during this interview about his technique

Plus you may want to check out his material on soundcloud which I am sure will make you recognise the sound.

This may also be of interest if you want to learn more about sampling:

(dude recreates Smack My Bitch Up using Live and the same samples the track used. it's awesome.)
