Re: Evolution UC 33
Please dont buy any MIDI/USB-Controller without (like the UC33) the MOST IMPORTANT FEATURE : ENDLESS KNOBS !!
for example: u make some controller assigns at a synth, and then u want to use the same controller for..drum machine.
without endless knobs u will get a JUMP between the 2 controll assigns.
Controller without endless knobs a/o motor faders are much cheaper !
buy a doepfer pocket dial ! thats the best solution for ableton/reason....
its about 220 euros

PCR-30
This box looks great, but it's missing the key element of a keyboard. There is no way to assign midi notes to scenes and trigger them from this box.
Check out my post about the Edirol PCR-30 I just wrote...knobs, faders, buttons...and a keyboard.

Thanks for the advices guys!
Actually I am looking for a controller which has a lot of knobs as I am using vst-fx extensively in live (some of my session look like each fx chain is a modular synth
). I already own a evoution MK225C which does what it is supposed to do but there is not enough knobs for me (and i agree to say that it looks quite cheap... the feeling of the knobs...). So I really don't know what is the best choice : another but better keyboards edirol PCR30 or the forthcoming Novation, or just a Knobby controller like the drehbank or pocketdial in adittion to my MK225C...
I have read that Keyfax is preparing a new controller too!

Not sure when this will be officially out, but it's pretty cool - and expensive:

Stop Before you order a UC-33!
I was curious about the UC-33 so I emailed Evolution and got back this response:
First off, April is one helluva delay between announcement and shipping. And, the bigger problem, $333 for 8 more knobs and 8 sliders slapped onto the UC-16??! That's INSANE. So much for Evolution doing affordable hardware...Hello!
Thank you for your enquiry and interest in Evolution. The UC-33 should be available in the USA some time in April. The list price is US$333
Kind regards,
Judith
Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price always higher.
The UC-33 also acts as a midi interface, like running a midisport 1x1 built in from what I gather. It has preprogrammed controllers for things like Reason too, and that makes it worth it to me (plug and play!) Finally, you know MSRP can always be negotiated at the music store (I'd bet a $100 USD drop in price easily), I've bartered many a time at the music store myself, and have always gotten a great deal (of course, I started becoming a regular there too, they can't forget a friendly face that says "I Need Something!").

I got an early copy of the unit during NAMM (I work for NI), and I used it during a live show here in LA with Live. it worked beautiful. quite possibly the best controller to match the functionality of Live.
cheers.
- 8 faders for the 8 tracks I used
Assignable buttons that I used to switch back/forth through my scenes and trigger them.
24 knobs to tweak all the plugins I had processing the audio tracks.
USB powered, no plugs or wall-warts. just one USB cable. that's it
cheers.
