see in my opinion that clip you posted is hiphop, and the stuff you call hiphop is rapmusic
and I agree that the commerciality of it has been a bad joke just like with other forms of music I guess.

always with the personal attacks.Machinesworking wrote:They diverged, rap and hip hop have a common ancestry, no doubt about that. You could ask me if I was interested in hip hop and rap, but you instead assumed I wasn't.Tone Deft wrote:you're the last person I'd expect to care about rap music.Machinesworking wrote:Meh, I lost interest in rap when it deviated from Hip Hop.

hip hop and rap are not the same thing. you should know that by now, but you're not into either.
nothing personal, you kick ass in knowledge of the stuff you do listen to.
I was very into rap/hip hop as a kid when it started in the 80's, not to play it per say, but I listened to a good amount, Run DMC, Egyptian Lover, Public Enemy, Eric B and Rakim, Afrika Bambaataa, Whodini. Hell, I heard Cookie Puss the day it came out, had a friend who though the Beastie Boys punk stuff was fun, so he got all excited when that single dropped. Obscure stuff like Gary S. Clail, Tackhead, Mantronix, and groups I can't remember the name of. Later on Wu tang Clan and the first NWA, The Doc, Hoes with Attitude etc.
Like I said, I lost interest after every producer tried to remake The Chronic, which is still going on.![]()
The Doc is another great rapper, too bad a car crash crushed his vocal chords.![]()
Loved his delivery.

hip hop is a culture. it consists of at least five elements
- rapping
- break dancing
- graffiti (go see Exit Through The Gift Shop)
- beat boxing (Fat Boys)
- turntablism
MW your hubris is amusing at times. you don't know shit about rap music.

Rap isnt a genre of music - its something you do with your voice that can work in any genre of music - just like singing is something else you can do with your voice. Its kind of like saying singing = rock music...starving student wrote:see in my opinion that clip you posted is hiphop, and the stuff you call hiphop is rapmusic

As a rapper you know this right?
(I know 'rap music' is used interchangable to mean 'hip hop' - something else they stole I guess).

That comes down to luck of the draw. Some are, some aren't. That's why I think rhymes saying they all are are silly.jtdj wrote:the police arent decent people they are a bunch of absolute fucking bullying cunts!
Why did the bouncers start? No reason at all? I take it they managed to lose any CCTV the casino had?
Re: What Makes a Good Rapper a Good Rapper ?
it was one of those rare nights i was having major luck on roulette, i'd had a few drinks and everytime i won i was saying 'shit-hot' and what have you, not relli thinkin. then got told to leave, a bouncer escorted me to the cash desk, once i had my money he sorta grabbed me to get me out even though i was going, i pushed him off, next thing i know more come over and start layin into me and the police are called. they didnt help or bother listening to me so i refused to comply, so they basically tortured and beat me before detaining me for 3 days. monday morning was told if i leave it at that there'll be no more trouble. no wonder people hate the police, that was my first direct experience with them, fuckin pricks.Piplodocus wrote:That comes down to luck of the draw. Re: What Makes a Good Rapper a Good Rapper ?
That sucks.
I'm always nice as pie to policemen, even if they're being stupid, since pissing them off will never do you any favours. I've even got off lightly by being overly polite and helpful when i was younger, when i have been caught being naughty. It sucks having to take some shit, and swallow your pride, but then they will treat you with more respect and are generally fair (though not always obviously). If they are called to take sides between the security of an establishment, or a possibly intoxicated punter they're naturally gonna take their side no matter how wrong they are. Sucks, but that's the way you have to play the game. Since they're in the strong position you only have it all to lose, and nothing to really gain.

Re: What Makes a Good Rapper a Good Rapper ?
of course Rap is a genre, don't let the popculture police fool you, sure I'm familiar with all of the virtuous tomes of Rap knowledge but I prefer to go with reality and think for myself. Rapmusic was a genre long before hiphop, hiphop is a culture thats for sure but hiphop is also a genre, and why shouldn't there be, most cultures have genres of music that go along with them too, rockers ie rock music comes to mind, thereKhazul wrote:Rap isnt a genre of music - its something you do with your voice that can work in any genre of music - just like singing is something else you can do with your voice. are also subgenres of both rapmusic and hiphop music that are all pretty specific. allot of people like to quote krs saying 'rap is something you do' but if you think for yourself and pay attention to everything else krs says you'll also clearly see that he absolutely believes that there is a difference between music called hiphop and music called rapmusic, krs does not believe that his music is the same as little waynes music by any stretch of the imagination, that's because they are two different genres.
btw technically I'm an mc not a rapper, but yes I rap. I only call myself a rapper when I want to piss somebody off who doesn't know the difference between an mc and a rapper.
Re: What Makes a Good Rapper a Good Rapper ?
yeah? neither will the 90's that you must have missed putting on your depends and getting a tall glass of prune juice. it won't repeat, what a shame.xzusa8ky wrote:I guess you was playin with your playmobil and lego at that time? my statement still stands.

you guys are missing the point. i am not knocking old school shit, hell no, but the way you post... it all ended with the likes of the Grandmaster Flash and the Fat Boys. my stance in this is: NO, it didn't. you just quit listening.

I thought it was the popculture police who claim its a genre - their need to stick a genre label on everything for fear of not belongingstarving student wrote:of course Rap is a genre, don't let the popculture police fool you
So - what genre is rapping over an instrumental electro house track?
(And if you say 'funky house' - consider youself cursed for eternity

I've often rebelled against labels but in truth it's not the system of catagorization that is evil it's people who use the system of catagorization for evil purposes that are evilKhazul wrote:I thought it was the popculture police who claim its a genre - their need to stick a genre label on everything for fear of not belongingstarving student wrote:of course Rap is a genre, don't let the popculture police fool you

I would probably just call that rapping over an instrumental electro house track, unless it turned into a movement and then I'd call it what the movement called it, of course if El-p produced it and rapped on the track I'd call it hiphop.

maybe I'm not down with the kids these days, but what's the difference? (other than MC's can also just announce people and do introductions at weddings and award ceremonies)starving student wrote: btw technically I'm an mc not a rapper, but yes I rap.
