Resolume Avenue can handle this for sure. Sounds as if something like Cell DNA might work for you too. Less than half the price of Resolume and as long as 32 x 64 clips are enough for you, and you're not so worried about advanced features it could be worth a look. Never used it myself but from a quick scan it looks ok for the needs you describe if you've decided to drop performance layers. The Phat Conductor wrote:i was using resolume way before avenue and haven't tried avenue yet to be honest.
what i need is to BOTH dj and bang out beats live and have the a/v sync'd a la coldcut.
do you think that avenue can handle this?
i am leaning towards running the video out of ableton on another computer so that the warping and everything is all good. i don't really need to layer much. straight cuts are fine with me.
do you think that there might be a way to hijack the video window from ableton and run it into a vj software?
To be honest though I'd download the demo of Resolume 3 (Full working version with logo watermark and annoying intermittent robot voice) and give it a spin. So much more for you to expand into if you want to go deeper with the visuals some time and you could run your vids in full HD at minimal overhead with their propietary dxv codec.
I'm afraid I don't know whether hacking the video output of live and using it as a VJ input is possible. Maybe head over to www.vjforums.com if you haven't already, and ask there.
