two diff genres by the same person
I dont need to even watch them to see your confusion between rap and rapmusic :)

(But i might have labelled them the other way around if I had to :? )
confusion haha not at all, most people just won't tell you the truth in these discussions, they wanna talk about breakdancing or jay-z......
the truth is there are many strains of each form of music that utilizes rhyming vocals
for instance, using your own analogy earlier, if all music that used singing was the same genre then michael bolton, james brown, and pearljam would all be makers of the same genre of music

it just aint so joe

maybe I'm not down with the kids these days, but what's the difference? (other than MC's can also just announce people and do introductions at weddings and award ceremonies)
the difference between an mc and a rapper is that an mc can rap anything a rapper can rap but a rapper cannot rap anything an mc can rap therefore cannot mc.

slick rick is an mc, little wayne is a rapper.
but just because you're an mc it doesn't mean that you make hiphop music.
jay-z makes rapmusic but technically he is an mc, some people call types like that rappers with mc skills....whateva.....

it's kind of like every singer cannot be an opera singer.

so see basicly we are discussing two different vocal artforms and two different genres of music

So it's a rapper who doesn't rap much?

Not enough rhymes to make complete songs up whilst the other fellow scrapes his needle on the bass heavy gramophone records?

:?

Not much else you can say to that

I thought modern MCing (as including rap) came out of jamica as the reggae MCs started to rap, and brought that with them to the US where combined with slowed down break beats and disco kick started hip-hop. (Yeh - there are half-a-dozen people who like to claim they invented hiphop out of rapping/MCing or whatever you want to call it today :))

well currently I think it's best described as
Rappers have swag and MCs have mic skills

so an MC is a rapper with more musical diversity.

If it sounds old skool, or dull, they're a rapper. If it sounds more interesting then they're an MC (even if they're still rapping).

If they have really good rhymes they might still just be a rapper though.

yeah, sorta... i don't know about the not enough rhymes part though.

an MC is a hype man... keeps things moving along. if the fellow scraping the "needle on the bass heavy gramophone records" fucks up or there is a technical glitch... an MC can/will find a way to keep things kosher... while a rapper (who doesn't MC) might be just as confused as the dj and the audience.

i know part of you is taking the piss, but part of you wants to know... i hope this helps the part that wants to know.

edit: an MC could host the whole show... maybe 3 or 4 rap acts come on while the MC keeps things moving in between and maybe even during...

no it's not dependant on eras, there were old school Mcs and Rappers, as well as those that blended the two like heavy D, it's better to put it like this, everyone on this forum can do what little wayne does, but everyone could not do what emenim does, although he stopped making hiphop along long time ago

^ don't forget jumping over balconies. very important part of shady hip-hop activity is the balcony hurdle.
