Need some pointers

Post by yush » Thu Feb 24, 2011 10:26 pm

So I have my arrangEMENT READY IN lIVE.
I want to finish the project in Logic.
I do not want to export all stems and then do the entire mixdown in Logic---- Or should I?
If I want to export into Logic a Single 24 bit wav 44.1khz wav file out of live what should my parameters be for :
1) Each audio channel in the mix : Should these be maxed out to 0 db or should all seperate audio channels be in the range of -10 to -6 db?
2) What should be the master channel volume be? Should it be around -4 db or -6db as well.

The idea is to import this file and add multipressers and fab filter limiter to it to make it louder while still maintaining the integrity of the sound.

So please any suggestions will help

Ok let me clear up some terminology. You want to 'master' the song in Logic. Sure you can do that no problem. Mixing the song in Logic I think is an unnecessary step. However there is no right or wrong answer there.

I would export your Mix in Live as a 24 bit file. If you were working in 44.1k then do that too.

Now about your audio channels. Do not try to mix them by using math. Use your ears. Just make sure the master bus isn't in the red. In fact try to keep it a bit below the red as your 'mastering' will take care of the apparent loudness.
