Is there a favorite format that people get usually? WAV, REX2, Apple Loops, etc, etc?
I normally get WAV's or Live Packs, but someone told me to use REX2 files over WAV's? Why would that be? Any ideas?
What is the "real" difference?

just depends on how you work but ableton really is a dream to work w/ samples in any format, i prefer wav's but that doesn't stop me from using rex or alp files. A lot of sample CD's come in multiformat but if they don't i use wav's as i can convert to rex or slice to midi as i need

How do you do this?ARDJ wrote:...i can convert to rex or slice to midi as i need

I was going to ask the same.arachnaut wrote:How do you do this?ARDJ wrote:...i can convert to rex or slice to midi as i need
So what is the point of a REX2 file?
What about AIFF files?
Maybe the question I need to ask is what are the differences between WAV, REX2 and AIFF?
ALP is just a live pack that I know.
Is one better than the other?

Re: Purchasing sample packs/loops/etc
I prefer REX-files. The reason is simple — they are universal. I could bring them to Logic (which I mostly use in the studio) and there's a lot of options — I could have them automatically mapped in the EXS24 or chopped to slices on an audio track, or simply bounced as an audio loop. Ableton Live also supports REX-files very well. There's a fly in the ointment though — ReCycle. I hate it's workflow.
But it does the job.
