Automation delay blabla, has it been fixed?
I stumbled upon some threads that autiomation and 3:d party plugins and Ableton = big no no. That things will get all messed up and out of sync. This made me feel i should not try to learn Ableton anymore, and move to something that works (i do alot of automation) when now i am moving from Reason/Record.
But then i stumbled upon this statement: "VST and AU support; automatic plug-in delay compensation"
So has it been fixed now? This got me all sad, cause i dont want more problems, i want some f*ckin Daw that doesnt dissapoint me anymore. So i can just focus on music making.

where did you read that? I highly doubt it's fixed. it's been a known issue for YEARS, it seems like it wouldn't be a simple fix.
did the DAW disappoint you or did people on the interweb convince you it disappointed you? like I wrote, it's been around for years and it didn't bother you until you read about it. think for yourself, right? trust your own ears.
I use very few 3rd party apps and few plug ins at all so I'm not really worried about it. I can make mixes that sound great too. if things get weird in a session I'll keep this bug in mind and try to listen for it.

Re: Automation delay blabla, has it been fixed?
Ive used Ableton for five days, but i was planning on buying suite and i've been beginning to mentally try to do the shift, reading a whole lot of things, playing with it and trying to figure out the workflow. But if this hasnt been fixed or is not going to be fixed anytime soon, then bye bye Live. I moved from R/R cause i want to use 3:d party plugins. I usually automatate a whole lot and chain things alot. I would expect it to sync. If not, then it will be a waste of time for me. Sad, cause ive really liked a few things with Ableton.
Re: Automation delay blabla, has it been fixed?
then again I just can say: get Cockos Reaper for 40€ and be happy with the most powerfull DAW in the world. Your mixes and your automation will thank you
Re: Automation delay blabla, has it been fixed?
Yeah, you should get Reaper right away. Fuck Live it will never make you happy. You should uninstall it and delete your forum account.

^ werd.
I used Live for about 6 years, made me so miserable, furrowed brow all the time..
In the end I got tired of my friends all making the 'Why the long face dazzer" jokes. Recently switched to Ropey and now I'm laughing my head of all the time. Night and day difference for me. In fact, I've recently installed another bit of great Cock software, WindAmp - even though it doesn't actually work on my Mac it still makes me smile so much it's unbelievable.

Re: Automation delay blabla, has it been fixed?
In a word No!
Can people still make excellent (and where nescessary tight) music with live? - Yes.
Cubase 6 does the job perfectly - allways. I still dont use the damn thing even when I know live is having a flake out session becuase TBH its a pain int he arse to use compared to Live (except for certain specific tasks that it is rather good for).
Else have fun with reaper - cu back in a few month when you have finallyy had enough of the menus and dialogs etc.

true..you should go logic wright away... its useless to even think about live when you are an automater.
Logic with one of the dedicated motorfader controlers will safe you month in life time.. the learning curve is a bit steeper..but once you are settled its way faster to operate thanks to many possible keycommands and especially handling algos for the automation data, when you edit allready automated projekts.. and its cheaper than live... so you can spend the safed money on the motorfader controler.. a logic control from mackie can go surprisingly cheap theese days
and dont worry about the barfing fanboys..some have forgotten theire plugs and that makes them grumpy. Its no ableton dissing when somebody that wants to do a lot of automation gets warned to use life for that.. and that the issues stay are a decade old now is not promissing either.. keep in mind that logic had a perfectly working automation allready before live even exsisted..that says it all somehow...
however..there are some strong points with ableton live when you want design more complex automated fx where one knob changes multiple parameters at once...
so controling parameters is in life quicker accesible and has some interesting options.. the editing of this controler moves is another question but just the knob moving live can be more fun...
however.. the op sounds like someone that is more on the editing side of things and than its no question that logic with multiple screen support and userdefinable editor windows is king... you can have an arrangement overview on one screen and zoomed view that shows the automation lanes of the same track on another screen while having an audio editor on screen 3...
and this all working with sample precision.. and the automation modes latch and trim... you can edit automated tracks in realtime without to have to draw any little shit in..
with the wright controler that safes lots of time... while life tends to erase your automation data allready set easily ...and than you draw again..after doing each track zoom individually by hand again...
dozends of moves that need in logic one click.. recall screenset x/y.. done.. or keycomands to zoom the track you are in... and and ..
live is lightyeras away from that state logic allready had reached at the end of the 90´s and its not really the philosophy behind life to be a real postproduction daw.. at least they behave like that for many years otherwise we would have timecode support that works since yyears.. thats the demand No.1 in a postpro enviroment. so its rather mean to try to sell anybody life that is into automation and editing
however..logic and live acomplemet each other pretty good when you like some of lifes features ..you can rewire it in logic

Re: Automation delay blabla, has it been fixed?
regarding automation: in reaper you can link every Parameter to every Parameter, you can sidechain every Parameter to every signal, and you have a built in Lfo for every Paramter. The menus can be customized so that they are not cluttered and the editing side of things is just amazing. But I know that one does not recognize the real benefits of reaper until you dive in quite a bit. Otherwise it will just look like a normal DAW, which it is not
It's also very easy to make bezzier curves, and the "Ripple"-editing blows it all away when it comes to editing.
Really, before buying Cubase (600€) or Logic (500), make sure to give yourself a few weeks with reaper (40€) and check out all features.
Get Reamenus008 (so the menu is not cluttered), get yourself a good theme (the default look of reaper is bad, but a lot of themes are beatiful ones). You can find this all in the stash, and you can evaluate Reaper for a long time without any restrictions to the functions.

thats what others say about life when they open it for the first time3phase wrote:the lengling software is an age old industry standard...

I think it is no coincidence that quite a lot "pro toolers" switched to R because of the funcionaliity and the price

pro toolers switched??? never have seen one sofar.. hard to switch anyway when you have spend 20k on your hardware..
you know that we are in the toy department here at ableton..yes?
converted protoolers that enjoy the benefits of permanent samplerate conversion in ableton life exsits only on the schoolyard but not in real world production facilitys
and reaper is a nice experiment ..that actually looks ableton a bit unableton but its a bloated classical daw and playground somehow.. dont think that this will push nuendo from its throne...
from what i hear nuendo is making it more and more in the movie world..
while logic amnd protools dominate the music production world..
most others are in the toy department some in the tool department

I meant they switched from ProTools to Reaper not Life. Of course I know that Life is toy, that's why I use it only as sketching-tool
