Why is it that music played on ableton through my sound system is only half as
loud compared to when I play music on youtube?
Is there a way to get more volume without distorting the music?
Volume issue
Re: Volume issue
because the music you hear on youtube is processed and mastered.
More volume without distortion: turn your speakers up
There are quick-fix routes by adding compressors/limiters to your master channel. This is essentially what mastering involves, except a msatering engineer will have the equipment and expertise to do it in a way that doesn't colour or hurt your sound. Doing it yourself will give very ropey results 99% of the time.
TL;DR: Don't worry about comparing yourself to youtube/iTunes etc. Those places are for listening to music, Live is for making music. Try to make sure you keep the two things seperate.
