You don't open it out of spite for its functionality, or lack thereof?

haven't had it open for a while. I don't see anything wrong with leaving it open from time to time. there are small features we can overlook or just forget about.

I love the idea of info view for notes but I've never used it.

lots of e-tough guys up in here.

Yup, used it all of the time when I just started using Live - it's a great feature. Don't use it any more, just very occasionally if there's a device I've not used before, the Info View is the first thing I check before reading the manual.

Now it's just used for live performance, like a post-it note for things to check e.g. settings of external equipment, before starting. Very useful.

I only open info view to tell it what a fanboy it is,
then I close it before I even opened it, with a hammer made of minimal dark bleeps

Normally off 90%+ of the time.

On when I'm fiddling with an Ableton Synth/effect I don't use much, and need to identify what that small cryptic slider/sample looping function/etc does.

On when I've put the hardware synth patches/guitar sound I used/what the notes are/etc when I've forgotten a few months later, and I helpfully used the "Edit Info Text" option.

Considering you just need to know the ? keyboard shortcut I don't want it filling up my screen when I'm not using it and can turn it on and of that easily.

I open it once a year and apply 3 drops of household oil just to keep it from seizing up.

Household oil will attract dust in the long run, you might want to use graphite powder.

Would be a lot more useful if they increased the level of help in some of the older devices - e.g. Grain Delay and Resonators.
this is a good point, I have thought the same thing in the past when I've tried to use it on devices I'm less familiar with, and admittedly now that I think about it, I do probably open it from time to time for this exact reason. But I wonder whether a lot of people would miss it because they don't expect anything useful there?

I also wonder whether it would be better for Ableton to put time into updating the info view with some more specifics on the less obvious plug-ins, or use the help view with some more lessons on these topics?

Personally I think I'd prefer to use the info view when possible just because it's so close and accessible that you can very quickly get an answer, while the only problem with it is that a lot of it doesn't properly explain the topic you are trying to use it for.

Info view, there's no key command to close and open help view.
