monitor recommendations?

Post by qberthightech » Tue Mar 08, 2011 6:56 pm

any recommendations on monitors for home studio use that arent thousands of dollars. Under $500 would be doable. Maybe a lil' more if need be.

thanks!!

Just bought a 27" Samsung at my local Costco. $300 and change.
Very nice screen and in the event I didn't like it, their return policy can't be beat.

lol, nope I guess he's not talking about that kind of monitors

for that amount of money I'd suggest a pair of KRK

I've just bought a pair of KRK RP6's that sound very clear on all frequencies...

I'm still going to acoustically treat my studio but have to say the KRK's front bass porting and shapely tweeters seem to do what they say (Give a tru nearfield representation regardless of the room size/acoustics...)

That being said, I am in fact, now in the market for a new LCD Monitor so am happy for this thread to be miss-understood.
I'm thinking 24" boys and girls... with one of those funky adjustable arms maybes,,,??

I've been using Yamaha msp3, pretty happy with it for the price.

dont buy too big or loud monitors if you have neighbours , these monitors really punch bass , and you wont be able to use them even at low volume 8S

I use a pair of Yamaha HS50M's which I find very good for mixing, which i chose over KRK's.

If your room is untreated theres not much point in splashing out on overly expensive monitors as they wont be 'flat' anyway.

I personally find it far more helpful to have speakers that I've learnt the characteristics of by having listened to most of my music through, so I can translate that over into a mix, rather than having super flat monitors with an amazingly well treated room.

KRK's (Or insert decent monitors of your choice): like, £300 +

Sound Treatment: Very possibly £50 or less if your canny...

New monitors will of course be just that, New....not something you've listended to for years....if we used your formulae I'd still be using those little grey fuckers I got with my Amstard hifi in 1979. (Yes, I am aware of the spelling mistake though have decided to leave it there)

Splash out mate, better than wasting it all on your kids, wife, house etc...

(I do sometimes use my old 1979 Ams'tard' Hifi for A/B comparison. You can even mix tapes on it...:DD)

Dont buy any!

If you're too stupid to use the search function on this forum, you'll be wasting your money buying decent monitors!

Seriously, how many times does this topic come up each month?

With that attitude we will never kick start the world economy!! Those could have been the KRK's that got the world out of recession!!!!!

Buy them, fuck, get the RP8's, they're way to big form your venue but to hell with the cost, eh?.

(Just make sure you can afford it though  ....we don't want no bankrupt punters getting 'spensive audio stuff on the never-never... that just makes baby jesus cry) :x
