Novation Launch Pad problem

Post by rozwoldo » Tue Mar 08, 2011 9:18 am

morning :)

I recently got my hands on the launch Pad, but I think it's conflicting with the Midi controller I already have which is the edirol keyboard midi controller.

When I disconnect the Edirol The Laucnh Pad works fine but when both or connected teh whoel systems has a nervous breakdown!!

Surely both shodul be able to co-exist - or will I have to keep em separate?

Thanks

Hiya,

I'll give it a go - how do I go about changing the midi channell? In the preference folder under Midi/Sync I have both controllers set up on different input/out put control surface slots..is that it?

Thanks

No idea mate, you cant do it in ableton you'd need to do it with the edirols midi editor software, that's assuming it's got some?

You didn't mention which OS you are using. I had some issues with lagging on the launchpad, running on windows 7 x64.
I know, not the same problem, but it might have the same cause.

They released a new USB driver half of february, which solved my problem. Maybe it will help for your problem as well.
Mind you, this was only on windows. There are no newer drivers for OS X. The latest os x driver is from november 2009.

Id change the 'global channel' on the edirol all the way to midi channel 16.

I think, from memory midi channels 1, 6, 8 & 9 are used by the LP for clip launch, mixer and both the user modes.

If you get any more controllers you can assign global midi channels for each one.

Vista is the OS - hasn't 'seemed' to be the problem though.

I'll give that a shot

Important to add: Modern, dedicated control surfaces (Devices found in the top right hand side of the midi preferences section) To name a few:, APC40, Mackie Control, Launchapd etc... seem to be happy sharing the same midi channels.

My set up is as follows:

Launchpad: As above, seems to be midi channels 1,6,8 & 9
BCR2000 in Mackie emulation Mode: Uses midi channel 1 also with no conflict with the LP.
MK461 Keyboard: Ch's 14 & 13 (over a number of presets)
AKAI LPD8 1) ch 16
AKAI LPD8 2) ch 15
FCB10/10/10: ch's 11 & 12.

If you have say 10 presets on your device with 127 possible midi cc perameters and midi notes you may need to use two midi channels to cover all...

NB: I've re-programmed all my devices (Using the controllers packaged software) to put out consecutive midi notes/ cc's so nothing shares the same channel, cc or note...

That being said, if you wish to use two different controllers to operate the same function (Say the play/stop/record transport) you can always programme each devices button.
/fader etc... to the same midi channel, cc/note.

You can also dictate a track to only receive midi info from one single controller on the tracks I/O section.

(Mad....., when you start to answer a question about using live there are always so many options, possibility's and choices!!!)
