Hi,
I recently purchased the Novation Launch pad which came with the Live 8 Launch pad edition.
I have previously been working with Live 7
I installed the Launch pad software and Live 8 Launch pad edition software.
Problem:
• When I go back to Live 7 all the folders in the Live Devices and Live Library have now been substituted for the Live 8 folders ie Live 7 folders are gone (or I can’t find them)
• In Live 8 – Live Devices – Instrument Rack there are folders there but they are all empty?
• In Live 8 – Library – presets- instruments there are folders there but they are also all empty?
So, essentially now all my Library folders and Live Devices folders are Live 8 (old Live 7 ones gone) and are all empty.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Live 8 Problem
Re: Live 8 Problem
Ableton changed a lot of the saved file formats (libraries, sets etc) when they introduced Live 8, such that anything pre-8 is converted to the new type. Unfortunately, once they're converted they won't open on any version prior to 8. That's why your Live 7 folders are gone, not sure why the 8 folders are empty though...
There were quite a few people who accidentally screwed up their 7 library by trying out 8, and I think there is something in the documentation that goes with Live 8 launchpad edition warning about this. Seems like it's a pretty messy process to go back, but I haven't had to try so I can't really talk you through it. Use the search button in the top right to have a look in the forums, there was a reasonable amount of discussion about it at the time so there should be more info there.
Probably not what you wanted to hear, but hope it points you in the right direction.

OK - I can live with lossing the Library instruments from 7 if 8 has an alternative but like I say the flippin folders are empty.
Thanks Cez 0 I'll have a trawl around the forum.

Re: Live 8 Problem
Actually just had a thought - surely I can just uninstall Live 8 LP Edition and go back to me lovely Live 7??? Please tell me that's a runner!?!
Re: Live 8 Problem
I think that's the messy bit...my memory kinda sucks but I think the gist of the whole issue was that once the files themselves had been converted it was quite difficult to un-convert them. As in, Live 8 can convert a Live 7 file to the 8 format, but Live 7 can't convert a Live 8 file into a 7 format. Once something was opened in 8, it adversely affected how easy it is to open it back up in 7.
I think people found ways around it, but I distinctly recall it was a pain in the ass for them. System restores, Time machine when on Mac, just the whole sort of long-winded recovery stuff. It sticks in my head because I use a Launchpad with Live 7, and I haven't touched 8 with a loooooong stick because I don't want to mess up my files. I'm waiting for more news on 9 before I upgrade again.
Maybe I'm remembering it all wrong and there is a really simple way to do it...I just don't remember seeing anyone post anything like that.
Good luck with it anyway, man!
