In fact I don't add sounds, I just start with white noise and gradually take frequencies out of it... just like Michelangelo said, there is already an Angel in the marble, I just have to free it!
What does white noise do to the track i thought that was just effect more than anything...please educate me

Blokes use white noise, girls use pink noise

Re: HOW TO MAKE A TRACK SOUND FULL
and you wonder why the forum is such a sausagefest...
emotionz - for audio topics Wikipedia can cover the basics, look it up. white noise is sound that contains every frequency of sound. it's like the color white being a mix of all the colors, same exact concept.
pink noise is white noise that's shaped so that every frequency has the same amount of power so that low frequencies don't dominate the high frequencies.
so, they're saying that they can start with a sample of all frequencies and chop out only what they need much like a sculptor starts with a chunk of marble and they cut out everything but the statue.
move this shit to the Music forum, show some respect.

nope, just calling it how I see it.
I don't peruse the Music forum as much as it deserves but that's the crux of all this, making music.
I also suck at posting my tunes, I got 4 more I need to just freaking post but I haven't.

It was just a joke.... Seriously though, Tone Deft explained what white noise is technically, but it actually does get used a bit in electronic music for those sweeping whoosh sounds - if you play white noise on it's own it just sounds like a big hissing sound, like when the TV is tuned to no channel - but as it contains energy right across the frequency spectrum you can sweep through with a filter - a lot of tracks use that effect for build ups
If you have the Live suite, Operator has a white noise generator in the waveform menu, if you just turn on a "BP12" filter and sweep the frequency knob you will hear the effect.
it often gets used for creating some drum sounds as well, like snares and hi-hats. But that is probably not that much use to you at this stage...

given your handle, post some examples. it is the Music and Audio Production forum after all. teach us.abletontrainer.com wrote:...white noise..., but it actually does get used a bit in electronic music for those sweeping whoosh sounds - if you play white noise on it's own it just sounds like a big hissing sound, like when the TV is tuned to no channel - but as it contains energy right across the frequency spectrum you can sweep through with a filter - a lot of tracks use that effect for build ups

Re: HOW TO MAKE A TRACK SOUND FULL
if you guys listen closely the piano is not pitch bending. there is something pitch bending with the piano but its not the piano.

Re: HOW TO MAKE A TRACK SOUND FULL
i miss making music like this..
focusing on melody rather than production.
to bad it wasn't 15 years ago when you could just be a song writer and not have to be a producer also.
the only advice i can give is: the pitch bend sound that is playing with the piano at the beginning does not seem to fit.
also the piano could use a little more sustain.
or you could put a reverb on a send and set the reverb to 100 percent wet and then adjust the send until it fits with the mix.
try listening with some different monitors while making the track (if possible)
maybe we could all help better if we knew what you are using.
what sample library or workstation are you using.
what type of monitors
ect ect.

Re: HOW TO MAKE A TRACK SOUND FULL
A 'full sound' like some have said doesn't necessarily come from adding more parts, it comes from having parts fit together well with each other and use all the spectrum.
Think about your mix in 3 dimensions, in which each part has a defined location: left to right (controlled by pan) top to bottom (controlled by eq - learning more about eq will definitely help) and back to front (controlled by volume, reverb and stereo width). That clap for example would fit better if turned down a bit, panned a little to one side, and some low frequencies eq'd out.
Figuring all this out takes a lot of time but you definitely have some good ideas, take care

Re: HOW TO MAKE A TRACK SOUND FULL
Oh, also, a big part of having a full sound in my opinion is for the bass to be in the right frequency range with the right frequency balance, and for the low end of the bass to be in mono. Again this is more the start of a long journey than a quick fix. Hope you enjoy it!

Re: HOW TO MAKE A TRACK SOUND FULL
Thank u appreciate your input and yea alot of ppl are talking about my claps soo thanks i will start to work on panning and doing reverb on my claps more...I'm just trying to get my ideas out first rather than doing the mixing stuff cuz its really a difficult process when ur new at it...esp if you don't know what to look forciw wrote:A 'full sound' like some have said doesn't necessarily come from adding more parts, it comes from having parts fit together well with each other and use all the spectrum.
