focusing on melody rather than production.
to bad it wasn't 15 years ago when you could just be a song writer and not have to be a producer also.
the only advice i can give is: the pitch bend sound that is playing with the piano at the beginning does not seem to fit.
also the piano could use a little more sustain.
or you could put a reverb on a send and set the reverb to 100 percent wet and then adjust the send until it fits with the mix.
try listening with some different monitors while making the track (if possible)
maybe we could all help better if we knew what you are using.
what sample library or workstation are you using.
what type of monitors
ect ect.
first of all thank you for the input and constructive criticism...i know nothin about mixing i just go on feeling when im composing songs ...sound selection i already know is a weakness for me
ok now i know what you and others are talking about for the first ne-yo track im guessing...i used hypersonic 2 sounds and layered the piano that gave it that pitch bend effect ...honestly i though it was giving the track a different feel lol guess not from the production side....the piano is a grand piano layered with a koto and asian box piano or something..but i think i mean't to have just the asian box piano and koto playing...it sounds much better to me ....once again i never used pitch bend...it just sounds like it cuz i use this technique on the keys called finger roll that gives it that effect i guess ....Oh yea my monitors are m-audio studiophile bx5a ...not the best but im a beginner
I was wondering if you knew any good bass vst for R&B ...BESIDES Spectrasonics TRILLIAN lol

Ask Tone Deft..this is when we make the best music..early in our development. The more you know the less you create. So these are the good old days, enjoy it.

You have a piano flavored sound. It is not harsh on the ears, and there is just enough material to keep the ears interested.

swing is crucial. Its also very easy. I assume you are in live? Just look up grooves in the manual. Basically it throws the notes which are not on the beat or the offbeat, ie the ones in between, a bit late. Makes the groove.
Open the groove pool by pressing the two wavy lines in the bottom left hand corner. Pick swing 99% from the groove library. Turn the quantize up to full. Turn the swing up to around 40%. Select this in your clip but do not commit. You will hear it but not see the notes shifted. Just leave it like that, turn the swing up or down if you want. You dont have to put swing on every track though.

CAN YOU DO THIS GROOVE POOL THINGS IN ABLETON LIVE 7...I DON'T HAVE LIVE 8 ....AND I THINK YOUR TALKING ABOUT LIVE 8
