I can't get my MPD16 working!

Post by Learned Evolution » Mon Mar 03, 2003 9:41 pm

hello all-

i am quite new to the creation of electronic music, and am still having a tough time with the basic language. i am running a mac with the emi 6/2 as a soundcard, and i got the mpd16 pads as a midi device. i have spent the whole day thus far trying to get the program to recognize the pads, to no avail. i have the USB out of the pads run into the 6/2 which is then run into a USB in the computer. i am quite frustrated at this point, and really would like to get the pads up and running asap. please help! thanks, jb.

Make sure your mpd16 is set as a midi control device. To do so, with in Live click on (options) from the menu at top left of Live, then scroll down to (preferences) and click on it, then click the (midi/sync) tab and then set the mpd16 as your midi control device. Also did you install the midi/usb drivers for the mpd16?

as far as i know, i have installed all the proper driver info. the utility icon comes up, but when i click on it, nothing appears. i was thinking that perhaps i need to run a midi chord into the 6/2? or should the straight usb take care of it? confused...

I just realised in your post that you stated you have the usb out of the pad connected to the 6/2. I belive that you may have to have the 6/2 on it's own usb port and the pad also on it's own usb port, but I am not 100% sure so you should ask some one about that.

The pad should send and recieve midi from the usb cable. You do not need to connect midi cable to 6/2 from mpd16

ok. i understand the usb situation. but i just can't get samples to link up with the controller in live. it doesn't recognize the mpd in the prefrences, either. i have reinstalled the driver and utility, restarted, still the same deal. it seems so simple, yet i just can't get outside myself to see the problem. any help is appreciated. j

from the (midi/sync) tab where it says midi control device did you click on the downward arrow to the left of the words (none). Does the midi light top right corner of Live lite up when you touch the pads on the mpd16? If not maybe uninstall the mpd16 and read manual very carefully and try once more to reinstal the mpd16 drivers, if you still have problems you may want to email akai support to see if they can help. If you install mpd16 drivers correctly Live will recognize the mpd16 as a midi control device.

as far as i know, the drivers are installed, but at the same time, i do think this is the problem. the computer in no place seems to recognize the driver. i don't get it.

If you tried all you can and still won't work, then you should ask the akai support team if they can help you

Good luck
