Novation Launchpad Question

Two simple things:

In Ableton - at the top of the screen next to the OVR button to the right, you have button with an arrow and lines - can I disable this completely when playing live with the launchpad?
It tends to combine clips together which I don't want.

Secondly, Is there any way I can disable the 2 bar waiting time for a clip to start?
For example, I press the pad, the pad flashes then the clip plays on the next downbeat, I don't want to that, I need the sample to play as soon as I hit the pad.

Yes.. sorry, I'm not infront of my Live system at the moment, but it's a matter of setting the Clip's Launch Quantization to 'None' instead of beat/bar/global.. etc...

Any info regarding the red overlap button?
And is it possible to stop a clip immediately instead of having to wait a second or two?
Suppose I push the wrong clip on the launch pad, I can't seem to find a 'stop' for that particular clip.

hit any empty clip slot on that track, and (once you clear up you global quantization issue) it will stop the second you press it, as long as that track is not record enabled.

My problem now is freeing up clips tracks. I only have the launchpad edition - and I don't have many clip trips to use simply as a stop. This is tuff!

well, you know what that button does, right? that is the "back to arrangement" button, so, if you are messing with session view clips, that button will light up to indicate that your current controls are different from those in the arrangement view. So if you launch clips, or change levels or something in the session view area, that button will light up to let you know that it is not the same as what is in the arrangement. As far as I know, there is no way to deactivate it, but your problems lie more in a misunderstanding of the interrelationship between arrangement and session view than with that particular buttons function.

I'd really start with the lessons or the manual, head for the screen shots of the program....

The back to arrangement button is really the thing you want to understand as to when it is in effect and when it's not....

Hi,
I don't have a manual with the launch pad version, and the help provided with the software is rubbish.
I'm using Ableton more for live performance than anything else, so I know I need to learn a bit more.

What info do I need regarding arrangement and session?

Then if not the printed manual your probably best using the lessons that are built in...

If you open the live browser, one of the file directories will be library, in here you should find the lessons....

Sorry. Disregard this response. I forgot you were referring to launchpad and not Ableton. and yeah i agree. the flyer they released as an instruction sheet was as useless as this post lol

I purchased a book called Ableton Live 8 and Suite 8 - Create, Produce and Perform by Keith Robinson, published by Focal Press. It even has a companion website. (only usable with purchase). go to http://www.focalpress.com and have a look. It is a good go-to source and actually having the book means no screen hopping

it cost me about $60 AUS and was money well spent. Best thing is it's not a cover to cover read, you just jump in to whatever section relates to your issue.

Hi guys,
Thank you for the responses.

My only issue is that after trying to lessons contained within the launch pad version, I can find little dedicated to actually performing a show live, using clips etc.

I have 4 stems per song - categorized into drums, bass, intro's and effects. But I'm also playing my guitar live along with my Launchpad. My guitar will be a mixture of usual distorted lead and a synth pedal, Roland GR-33 - with the intention of adding to the music from ableton.

So far I've trimmed the clips to the the beginning of each stem, and I originally removed the quantization for each stem from global to none. Currently I'm having problems with the quantization. When using 'none' quite often my launchpad doesn't respond quickly enough and the next clip after striking is out of time.
I've tried using the bars feature - 8 bars, 2 bars, 1 bars etc - but I'm still having problems. Even with 1 bar - after striking the pad in time - the clip still plays out of time....

My only other issue is the aforementioned read box. I understand why the box displays red, but is there anyway to disable this?

as long as you only use session view you don't need to worry about the back to arrangement button. Your arrangement is empty, so it will lit up as soon as a clip is playing. Indicating that currently something is playing that isn't in the arrangement. No issue for you.

regarding clips being out of time: Did you trigger them with the scene-triggers (the round buttons on the right side of the LP)? If so, and they are out of time, then check on the start flags and on the warping.

Best you do the lessons on warping to get your head around this, you can open the lessons via the help menu.

Hi Pep - thank you for getting back to me. I'm new and I'm a retard as well as impatient so thank you for helping.

The back to arrangement button is annoying because when I rehearse, the button lights up, which means when I stop, I have to click the button again, other wise any clips I used during my last trial run will automatically start again when triggering my next performance - if that makes sense!

I'll look into the lessons regarding warping. I've turned warp off for all clips - should it be on?
At the moment I'm triggering each scene with its own clip - then adding the second stem by triggering the next scene when ready with the next clip. Basically, at the moment I have a row of 4 clips each representing a stem - lined up together on my launchpad. If I trigger them together - using the round button a the side of the LP, they'll be out of time due to each stem being trimmed from the beginning of its audio to the actual moment the audio starts...
