Rendering video in Ableton 8

Post by Nennena » Mon Mar 21, 2011 8:47 am

Does anyone know how to render videos in Ableton without it crashing?
When I try to render a video (let's say, for ex. a snare drum video that I chopped up to match the sampled snare drum in the audio track), Ableton will crash. Ableton support hasn't been very helpful: they told me not to use ASIO4ALL, but the problem persists.
If the Ableton video feature worked properly, my life would be so much easier, because matching the audio track to the video works like a charm. Only.. I can't render it and use it in Adobe Premiere, which is where I do the actual video editing.
I need to render to Quicktime, since Adobe Premiere will read that and not .avi.
Any ideas, suggestions? So very few people talk about this is a constructive manner. All I could find on this topic on the web were complaints on how Ableton sucks with video. I hope I won't have to confirm that...
Thanks!

No problems rendering video from Live here on a Mac. Perhaps try re-installing Quicktime to make sure you have the latest codecs, etc?

Sorry not much help.

its been a long time since i had to render video from ableton on pc - also on a mac here and like pitch black says, no issues here; but i used to render from a pc and had the same issues. as far as i remember (and like i say its been a while!), some graphics cards cause issues when rendering so if you turn hardware acceleration to none in your video settings you should be able to render (on xp you could get to these settings at the same place you changed your screen resolution, etc). Sorry about being very unspecific - can't really remember how i solved it.

Now for some proper useful advice: Live doesn't really deal with video. It just tells quicktime what source file you're playing at what time and at what speed and quicktime does all the actual playback and rendering. This is important cause its far easier to find support on why quicktime isn't rendering properly in windows... so google "quicktime crashes on export in windows" with your specs and you should find the result.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I'm going to look into it. FYI, I have an icore2 pc that runs Windows 7. I really want to get it to work so I can get my sampled drums synched up with the audio and then export the video and do all the editing in Adobe Premiere.
I'll let you know how the Quicktime thing goes.
