Modifying swappable SessionDrums/Drum Machines Rack Presets

Post by MOR01 » Thu Mar 24, 2011 6:52 pm

I've been remapping all of the stereo kit and drum machine kits to my SPD-S on the midi grid. In some cases there are not enough samples to fill the 9 pads for the SPD-S. So, I have decided to add separate individual samples from already existing session drum/drum machine kits. The issue I am having is that I cannot figure out how to map the effect rack which are pre-set to the factory samples on each particular session drum/drum machines factory kit.

So for instance with the "Kit-707 Smasher", when I add a sample from "Kit-606 Cathode" I cannot seem to be able to map the macro controls from "Kit-707 Smasher" onto the sample form "Kit-606 Cathode" in order to keep the constancy of effects sound on the new sample in relation to the whole kit. I tried using mapping mode, but I could only mad to the imported "Kit-606 Cathode" sample's singular macro controls. While it registered, the sound of that ample did not match the "kit-707 Smasher" sound. Is there ay way to achieve the trick I am looking for?

Thanks in advance for your help!

it depends on the rack... sometimes the main rack just has effects on the end of it (like some session drums racks), those you can add anything to. some racks you can use the hot-swap function in the rack itself. 707 smasher looks like they have a separate redux + compressor on the end of each subrack, so you'll need to duplicate that to get the 606 sample sounding the same... not really automatic.

Sound like you might be doing a hot swap on the pads of the drum rack. Try going into the chain and host swapping from the simpler inside. This should retain all your macro mappings. If this doesn't work you can do a sample swap from inside of simpler itself. This of course will also keep your simpler settings and simply replace the sample.

It's all a matter of what it is you swap. When you hot swap a pad you are really hot swapping an entire chain so all your mappings will go with it.
