Calm discussion of the main audio idiosyncrasies in Live
Calm discussion of the main audio idiosyncrasies in Live
I know some of you regulars are tired of all this - but Im not here to diss Live but simply to get the skinny on the recent audio elements of Live that some are bothered with (whilst others are perfectly happy as is)...
With that in mind can someone who is well versed on these matters clarify the recent opinion on:
Sample accuracy...did this get resolved in any way?
Plugin chains with time constants - better to use FX returns than long plugin chains?
Plugin delay compensation - is there an issue here with chains of 3rd party FX?
Im getting bogged down in all the polemics and just want a simple lucid appraisal/list from someone who knows the score and doesnt have an axe to grind...so I can work intelligently around anything
Any other Live audio aspects I should be aware of when mixing down...(not including levels, sample rate / bit depth, Hi Q etc that are already well known...)
cheers

Re: Calm discussion of the main audio idiosyncrasies in Live
The only one im bothered about is the delay compensation.
Live doesnt seem to compensate for plugin delay properly. which is a major pain especially if you're trying to process different channels in parallel, with sends and returns all over the place.
full plugin delay compensation is a standard feature in most other daws, and i think we've been waiting too long for it in live.

sorry can you full explain how it doesnt fully delay compensate? I thought it did this like other DAWs...TheDriller wrote:The only one im bothered about is the delay compensation.

seems to happen to me on large projects and especially when i put plugs on the master but to give you an example, say i have a hi-pass autofilter on a 16 bar section, device on starting on bar 33 and device off bar 49, it will actually turn off before bar 49 which is obviously very noticeable. I have to either nudge the device off to 49.1.3 or 49.2 to get it SOUND correct. That goes for nearly all the automation in the project. We've all let ableton know about this since vers 7 i believe, still no answer

i just made an interesting experiment.. i mixed in live.. but realtime audio inputs.. 12 inputs via input momitoring in live..but with lives plug ins..
than i tried the same with logic and logic plug ins..
and i dont say anything here but try yourself..and you wont have questions anymore.
