I think that there's a demo of M4L available, so it's possible to try. I'd be interested to hear how that works. The MaxMSP standalone version is free, but harder to set-up.
For VST, the question would be - what output can we send that's good to control tempo? My guess is that you'd have it send MIDI timecode or something.
The advantage of maxForlive is that all this is done for you - it almost is a specialised VST plugin, but one that has control over tempo and access to beat location etc, whicvh is very useful n this case. But I'll have a think on how to do this....

Re: B-Keeper:Drum Tracker for Ableton Live available to download
hey - finally got around to trying this out. . took a bit of fiddling around (didnt quite understand that the click wasnt abletons click
)
but it works GREAT! thanks so much for your work on this. im a drummer and ive never experienced this kind of dynamic between click / beat / groove.. very organic and flexible. couldnt stop playing.
feel free to PM me if you need any help / testing / whatever.. thanks.

Re: B-Keeper:Drum Tracker for Ableton Live available to download
so is it the M4L device that you're using?
That should be close to plug and play
for anyone trying it - please try the demo files! - if they don't work then live drums won't either. They're available as links on the b-keeper.org website
I'm sorry if I've not been able to make it easier to set up but I reckon the max4live device is really getting there. Any feedback on it would help
cheers

wow, this sounds promising. gonna keep tabs on this, could be really useful.

This is just awsome. And a very good reason why M4L shold have a runtime: This is, since it was relleased, absolutely esential for any Live bands, performing with a drummer.
