Hey everyone, I usually chop and warp tracks in Ableton then bounce the wav file of that track into Logic Pro, where I render it to MP3. I then put that mp3 back into Ableton to use for a DJ set. I have no problem doing this but it seems a little too time consuming. My question is, instead of rendering a track to mp3, can I use the Ableton wav file for my dj set? I've never done this because wavs are heavy in megabytes and I don't want to slow down my processor. But will using Wav files even do that?
And one more thing, I do my sets with a UC33-E but for some reason the EQ knobs aren't as accurate as I'd like for them to be. For example, I can't make the EQ exactly 0 db, it usually bounces to -0.30. Basically I can't get it to the exact number I want. Also, is there any way to make the EQ automatically stop at 0 db when I turn the knob? I don't want it going above the 0db range but I always go over the limit. I can still put on a decent live set, but I can't get it perfect due to the EQ level inaccuracies. I feel like I'm doing more work than I should as far as EQ'ing, and I'd rather worry about what loops, samples, and effects I'm gonna drop. On a traditional mixer with CDJs, eqing is very accurate, so I'm able to get more creative with my sets, but with Ableton, I'm too worried about not getting them accurate. That shouldn't be the case in Ableton. I should have a lot more creativity options.
Thanks in advance!
Question for Abelton DJ's
Re: Question for Abelton DJ's
I haven't read the second part of your post yet but:
wav's actually save you a lottt of trouble. mp3 is not native to Ableton Live. It actually renders them into wav before it uses them. I prefer to use wavs myself
It is a lot more stable. Basically you would be saving yourself time AND CPU (not necessarily hd space though.. )
Edit: As for the second part, I'd say, throw your EQ into a rack, and adjust the macro knob settings to taste.
